This isn't the iPhone 5. No matter how badly you wanted something slim, sleek and wedge-shaped, this isn't it. If you went ahead and got your hopes up ahead of Apple's "Let's Talk iPhone" event, hopefully you've gotten over the pangs of discontent by now, because this device pictured front and center is the iPhone 4S. It's a new spin on an old phone that will shock none, but give it half a chance, and it will still impress. The iPhone 4S comes with a faster processor, a better camera, a smarter virtual assistant and twice the storage of its predecessor -- if you don't mind paying for it. Like the iPhone 3GS did before to the 3G, the 4S bumps the iPhone 4 down to second-class status, leaving those Apple fans who must have the best aspiring to own its decidedly familiar exterior. Apple says this is the most amazing iPhone ever. Is it? Yes, of course it is, but read on to see whether it's really worth an upgrade. After speed testing the iPhone 4S from AT&T and Verizon here in the midwest with the Speedtest.net app, we wanted to share some real world speed tests that you can see with your own eyes. To do this, we loaded up the Netflix app on two iPhone 4Ss, to see if AT&T or Verizon offered better on the go video streaming on Apple’s latest iPhone. We tested out several movies on the iPhone 4S on each network, to see how the movies looked. While most iPad movies get watched on WiFi, the portable size of the iPhone 4S and access to tons of video content makes it perfect for watching over 3G. We tested out both of these devices in the Midwest, in Bluffton Ohio, where we recently completed a speed test that saw speeds of up to 6Mbps on AT&T and 1 to 1.4 Mbps on Verizon. Both of these iPhone 4S units had good signals and had WiFi turned off. Check out our full iPhone 4S Speedtest in the Midwest here. SIRI Siri says hello, one of its creators says goodbye? That's the story, according to the good folks at AllThingsD. Dag Kittlaus, whose name you've probably missed with all the laser-like focus on Steve Jobs, was the co-founder and CEO of the company that put the iPhone 4S's acclaimed voice assistant software on the map. But let's get the drama out of the way: The departure's been long-planned and "was amicable," according to AllThingsD's source. If you're looking for a scandalous tale of bickering power players and back room turmoil, you won't find it here.
What you will find, on the other hand, is a trifle more about one of the guys who helped drum up millions in financing to get Siri off the ground years ago. Siri wasn't Apple's idea, initially—Apple didn't pick Siri up until April 2010—and in case you missed this part in all the hubbub: It was actually an app that ran on all versions of the iPhone, via the App Store, until Apple decided to make it iPhone 4S-exclusive (and yanked it from the App Store entirely). Kittlaus is said to be leaving to be closer to his family, work on other projects, and basically take a little time off. I imagine in 2011 he's a much wealthier person than he was three or four years ago, and maybe you'd take a breather too, if you'd just helped co-launch one of the most acclaimed software tools in recent memory. Android has no intention of slowing down, despite Microsoft now licensing more than half of Android and Chrome devices under its patent portfolio. Compal Electronics is the latest to ink a deal with Microsoft, paying out for its Android-powered tablets, smartphones and e-readers. But rival Microsoft is just part of the bigger challenge Google’s Android OS currently faces. Even with the recent release of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Android’s software still has some catching up to do with iOS 5’s latest version, as well as the iPhone 4S’ personal assistant perks with Siri integration. As expected, Siri’s conversational style has wowed consumers, ushering in a new era for smartphone usability. But AI programs and speech integration is nothing new for Android devices. For a less integrated service you can try a number of apps that offer some of Siri’s noted capabilities. Interest is growing for Siri-like apps for Android devices including Speaktoit Assistant, Vlingo and Edwin. As SF Gate points out, Speaktoit is known for its candid responses, as Siri is, while Edwin leverages the same Internet knowledge engine as Siri. All three of these apps integrate with other Android apps at some level, enabling you to dial phone calls, send text messages and get information for things like weather or local venues. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Devs digging around in the Android 4.0 SDK have found something that fans of Android gaming will really appreciate. The devs have discovered that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS will have integrated, native support for game controllers. That means you will be able to connect game controllers to the tablet to play your favorite games rather than relying on touch or motion control. That would be a really cool thing for controlling some of the old school arcade game ports that are out there. I wonder what sort of game controllers will be supported. I would assume that Bluetooth and USB controllers would get the nod. That might allow you to just plug your Xbox or PS3 controllers in and play away with a much better control system. This won’t be the first time a game controller has been usable on Android, there was a hack for the Wii remote a long time back. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is now official. Here's what you need to know about the latest version of Google's mobile OS which combines the best of the Android 2.x phone interface with the Android 3.x Honeycomb tablet interface. Ice Cream Sandwich is designed for use with both phones and tablets. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich features Android ICS offers a massive array of improvements over its predecessors bringing the best of both Gingerbread and Honeycomb while providing a raft of new innovations. The company says 4.0 is a complete rethink of Android's image and is part of a push to make the OS "Enchant me, Simplify My Life, and Make Me Awesome." For more click here: #links# Kim Kardashian Kim Kardashian has a role in Tyler Perry's new movie "The Marriage Counselor" but it doesn't appear she'll be needing one anytime soon. According to multiple sources, the reality star and her basketball-playing hubby of three months, Kris Humphries, looked like lovey-dovey newlyweds during a whirlwind weekend celebrating Kardashian's 31st birthday in New York and Las Vegas. The festivities started Friday evening where a well-informed source tells us Kim and Kris enjoyed an "affectionate" night out at The Darby celebrating Kim's milestone and the couple's final night in the Big Apple. Close family and friends joined the couple at the Meatpacking District restaurant including Kim's older sister, Kourtney Kardashian and her beau Scott Disick, and the reality star's BFF La La Anthony. Kim and Kris were "sitting next to each other, kissing a lot," says our source, and appeared "unfazed by the rumors" that have recently insinuated their union is fractured. Humphries added fuel to the fire last week when pictures of him not wearing his wedding ring emerged. Justin Bieber Remember that Titanic-size date Justin Bieber took Selena Gomez on? The one he likely dropped about $500,000 on? Well, weeks after renting out Staples Center so he and Gomez could view "Titanic" in private, Bieber is back to his old tricks. The Winnipeg Free Press reports that the couple headed to the SilverCity Polo Park Cinemas in Winnipeg, where they enjoyed a private screening of the Hugh Jackman-starring robot-boxing flick "Real Steel." The newspaper reports that the duo rented out one of the theaters and enjoyed pizza. OK, so it's not on the scale of steak dinners at a place that seats 20,000 people and is home to the L.A. Lakers, but the pair still got to chill out without being bothered. Lady Gaga Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (born March 28, 1986), better known by her stage name Lady Gaga, is an American pop singer-songwriter. Raised in New York City, Gaga – the eldest of two – primarily studied at the Convent of the Sacred Heart. A college drop out at 17, Gaga briefly attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts before withdrawing to focus on her musical career and started to perform in the rock music scene of Manhattan's Lower East Side. By the end of 2007, Gaga was signed with Streamline Records. Employed as a songwriter for the record company, she captured the attention of recording artist Akon who – recognizing her vocal abilities – signed her to his own label Kon Live Distribution.
