A novelization of four particular moments of Ep.1 in Season 3, that have made me wonder a lot about the state in which Athos was when they finally re-encounter Aramis. D'Artagnan was happy, Porthos hardly containing his anger, but Athos seemed to just bask in the moment and in total awe of seeing Aramis. Why so? Athos' POV.

D'Artagnan remembers his father told him once years ago, when d'Artagnan was still a boy, that there are few things in this world worth dying for. But then there are some things that are, and d'Artagnan made his choice a long time ago.

Complete. Aramis centred with d'Artagnan as secondary, but with full cast throughout. Extreme whump. Men are going missing across the French countryside. Aramis and d'Artagnan find themselves in dire straits; alone and unsure of their futures. But as each one learns the definition of torture, one of them also learns about himself.

An it-could-have-happened-this-way segue into Episode Ten - Musketeers Don't Die Easily, with apologies to anyone who actually knows how to write a fencing match. And for Debbie, who said, "I'd love to see this continued..." as regards a conversation between Athos and d'Artagnan about Milady. The H/C in this one is emotional rather than physical.

Athos keeps saying his name as though hoping to call him back from the dead before he has even joined them. So far, it seems to be working.

War is upon them. The Royal family are threatened. The Musketeers face the battle knowing it spells their doom but they unsheath their blades without a tremble in their hands. They are the King's guard and they face their foes with honour. A stand alone fic.

d'Artagnan is a patchwork of people and he knows it. The ache does not come from knowing that he has taken others into himself – there is no one there he recognises who he does not love and admire – but instead is born of a sense of knowing that he can never be as great as the shadows he stands in.

The greatest heroes can be felled by the most ordinary things. Their strength lies in how they get up once they fall. d'Artagnan learns this the hard way.

There had been whispers and rumors of dissidents gathering a force in Doue. Treville had ordered them to investigate. They'd been pointed to this country estate by a barkeep in town, but it looked quiet and empty. Which made Athos uneasy.

Athos was quite clear in his instruction. d'Artagnan was supposed to return to Paris with the others. Instead, he decides to disregard the Musketeers orders. Can d'Artagnan convince the Musketeer he is still to be trusted and can Athos finally find a route to redemption? Set during Commodities, right after the fire. It is d'Artagnan's turn to step up and take care of Athos.

What if the Musketeers weren't anywhere near La Fère when Porthos was injured? What if Athos had insisted they not stop?
