"I watched you while you were sleeping." Phil's iconic, awkward line. But what if he had meant to say "I watched OVER you while you were sleeping"? What if Phil was in charge of bringing Steve home? What happened after they find Steve in the ice? Why does Phil love Cap so much? This story aims to elaborate on Phil's history and what he was doing shortly before Avengers.

This is set at the end of Winter Soldier, while Steve is recovering from his injuries. What happens when Natasha invites Steve to crash at her place when he gets out of the hospital? They become so much more than friends.

With a passive survey of his own wounds, Steve shrugs before glancing up at Tony. "It'll heal." He gives a small smile. Tony gazes incredulously at him, too stunned at Steve's casual dismissal of his injuries to say anything.

Steve usually spends his birthday in quiet and solitude, remembering fallen comrades. For Fourth of July at the Avengers Tower, he takes to the roof during the fireworks in order to not be haunted by his past. This is a missing scenes story. I absolutely loved Natasha's and Steve's relationship in The Winter Soldier and this story begins with Steve lying on the river bank after the Winter Solider pulled him bruised and broken from the river. Natasha helps to save him and comes to understand how much Steve trusts her.
