QUIRKS: More than I can count, but I'll let you in on the main ones: you may have noticed already but I have an odd (to my opinion) sense of humor, and I may slip into sarcasm every now and then. But don't let that deter you; in reality I'm a very open-minded person, and I'm never rude to anyone unless they give me reason to be. My motto is "Live and let live" which should tell you a lot about my character and personal values.

LIKES: Movies, books, music, shopping... oh and I could probably be bribed with chocolate. :smile: Most of all I like the world of Fanfiction. To read and write about my favorite books, shows and movies is one of my simple pleasures in life.

DISLIKES: Lies. Prejudices. Intolerance. Discrimination. Hypocrisy. Waking up early and trying vainly to set my hair. Oh, and I run away screaming when I see a spider or any other kind of creepy crawlies.

My pen name: "Melian" is a name I borrowed from J.R.R. Tolkien's works. She was a Maia, and she served the Valier Vàna and Estë before she came to Middle-Earth. There she met and fell in love with the Elven-King Elu Thingol, and later she ruled the kingdom of Doriath by his side. She was a friend and mentor to Galadriel, and the mother of Lùthien Tinùviel.

My Fandoms: This Account is solely for a specific category of fandoms; the one where characters are or can be imagined as Real People (Ex: Doctor Who, Sherlock, Lord of the Rings, etc...). I also follow some fandoms in the Anime and Cartoons' Universes, but I have a separate Account for those.

Some of them are only friendship and bromance, others go further than that. Sometimes they delve in both.

{ MY GUIDELINES ABOUT FANFICTION }

I like a good, interesting story, one with an elaborate plot that flows as smoothly as possible. I don't like when the action rushes by too fast, jumping from one scene to the other without really developing the idea. Vice versa, I don't like when the story drags on too much and takes many useless chapters to get to the point. Finding a happy medium is difficult, yes, but the result will be so much better for it.

There's also the matter of good grammar, a point that can never be stressed enough. I'm particular about it myself, although I don't judge other people's writing as harshly as I judge mine. Still, please make an effort. Too many mistakes in a text are annoying and distracting. Get a beta-reader if you must.

I like a good dose of angst every once in a while, and in fact most fics would be quite boring without some kind of character torture here and there. But for the love of God, don't push it! Give your characters a bit of a backbone, for pity's sake! It's my personal belief that a hero doesn't live up to his title very well if he's constantly whining about his deplorable fate instead of actually doing something about it.

Likewise, I love fluffy goodness (as most girls do, I suppose), but only if it's within a serious, well-written plot, and/or accompanied by some action. Please spare me the soap operas, it makes me twitch most unattractively.

Smut (or porn) for the sake of smut just doesn't do it for me. I don't mind reading a scene with graphic sex (although few authors have mastered the art of writing a good one), but said scene has to be part of a greater, more serious plot. Otherwise it just doesn't interest me.

Last but not least, I CANNOT stand, in any way or form, the Mary Sues, or any version of their male equivalent. Do NOT get me started on why because 1) I might become violent, and 2) I have a VERY extensive list of reasons that should, anyway, be obvious to any smart person out there. My position is the same with OCs, or at least with the ones that suddenly creep up and steal the spotlight from the canon characters. This site is for fanfiction, not for original stories starring original heroes.
