Panem watched as a girl volunteered to save her sister. The Capitol watched as she became the Girl on Fire and the star-crossed lover of her fellow tribute. The Districts watched as a little girl made the Capitol blink and bend. Panem watched as she became the Mockingjay and set the world ablaze. But some people watched the girl more closely. One breathtaking moment in time, that might never have come, following by the aftermath of the crippling war. Winners and losers...and all the angst in-between. This is just an alternative, not dogmatic in the least, of Katniss and Gale not at odds with each other.

Picks up sometime between the Victory Tour and the Quarter Quell. Katniss and Gale remain secretly involved despite Snow's threats. However, when Katniss discovers she is pregnant, the stakes grow even higher. Follows the basic storyline of the novels, but obviously with some major differences.

She understands her symbolic importance: she is the accidental conjugation of an experiment of the Capitol and something indigenous to the districts. She is neither a jabberjay nor a mockingbird. Almost as consolation, as useless words to her broken soul, she tells herself, she is a mockingjay, the Mockingjay, free to fly wherever she wants. She does not have a side.

The idea started as a Galeniss fic, and evolved from there. What if Peeta alone won the 74th Hunger Games, but the rest of Panem was the same? What if Gale decides to pursue Katniss, who resists him at every turn? What if District 12 isn't Snow's biggest problem? How will the Quell turn out, and what happens to the rebellion? I promise Galeniss, starting around chapter 6.

Not everything is what it seemed when Wyatt called Coop "Uncle Coop" in the series finale. Forget the whole "they are one in the future" or whatever crap they feed Phoebe in the finale about Coop who I do actually like, but alas I am a Cole fangirl .
