This is a rewrite of the ending of 8x17 (Goodbye, Stranger). In this version, Dean says something a little more powerful than "We're family, I need you" to snap Castiel out of Naomi's grip. Destiel.

Cas bends Dean over a desk during a case - because he just can't handle the sight of the hunter's tight ass in dark suit slacks.

Set some time in between 9.02 and 9.09: The Winchesters travel to California to investigate a strange demonic possession that caused a teenager to decapitate several of his friends with a surfboard. When Dean finds himself on an aeroplane for a case, Cas is the only one who can offer comfort. Not that he needs to be comforted. Not at all.

After escaping Naomi's control, Castiel isn't quite ready to face Dean again. Heart heavy with the guilt of the crimes he had committed, but needing to see Dean's face, Castiel visits him while he is sleeping. It becomes an unintentional habit and one night, he finds Dean sleep walking... and talking. Dean's restless sleep soon uncovers things that Castiel never knew were possible.

Post-Goodbye, Stranger. Dean and Cas grapple with what happened between them in the crypt.

" "Cas?" His voice caught, chest heaving. He crawled up to the angel's lifeless form, his hands forming a tight ball on Cas' chest. The night fell quiet around them, the creak of the wooden boards below like gunshots through the air. Panic began to settle in his gut, the reality of the situation hitting him like a freight train. In one of their usual brotherly spats, Dean says something really stupid. An archangel friend makes a surprising return to teach them a lesson about staying on the same team by kidnapping Sam away to the center of the Labyrinth. Dean has 13 hours to get him back. [Slightly AU-Dean was able to tell Sam about Ezekiel, and Ezekiel was subsequently evicted.] [Destiel] [Sabriel]
