Quick little one-shot Caryl scene that takes place between 4.02 and 4.03. Not super fluffy (not very lovey-dovey, I tried to keep the tone of their relationship on the show). But, a little bitty fluff. Deals with Daryl's feelings towards Carols new "Daughters" and the infection.

Carol and Daryl have been separated from the group while on a run. With a flat tire on the bike their only way home is to walk but they come across a cabin to stay the night before the long walk back to the prison. Alternating between both character's POV the story follows Carol's mission to make Daryl talk to her and sort out both their feelings before returning.

Daryl tries to come to terms with the loss of his brother and, of course, it is a journey he strongly believes he should walk alone. But when she finds him there, next to her own grave, her kindness guides him out of the dark. Sometimes, in mourning, we see things in a different light. It doesn't have to be understood right away to be real.

What if Carol took Rick's invitation for people to leave if they didn't like his leadership? And Daryl just couldn't let her go alone...

When Carol discovers that Daryl can't read, she takes it upon herself to teach him. But when boundaries are crossed, and disaster strikes, it's up to Carol to fix the broken hunter. Rated for mentions of past abuse, violence, torture, and language. Caryl angst/comfort.

Daryl's thought process as the group settles down in the prison. "I ain't sleepin' in no cage". Daryl decided a long time ago never to end up like his degenerate father or his delinquent brother, Merle. He promised himself he'd never spend a single night in jail, and just because everything else in the world has changed, doesn't mean his promise has. Rated T for language.

"I could tell he was looking at me. He thought what he'd said earlier would convince me. That just maybe he'd made me realize how I mattered or some shit like that. And, maybe he had. I don't know. Either way, I still couldn't bring myself to look him in the eyes. And I hated myself for it." Daryl's inner thoughts during the Randall debate. Maybe Dale wasn't as alone as he thought.

He was so close, so very close; then she stumbled out of that barn, a walker. Daryl wasn't fast enough to save her, and now, the only thing left to do is save Carol. But maybe, she'll be the one to save him?

"Carol stared at the wall. She was lying on her side in an unfamiliar bed—a stranger's bed, abandoned until she'd taken it up the night before. It rested in an abandoned room. An abandoned house. A nameless town." When the group spends the winter in Daryl's hometown, Carol finds herself joining him in a dangerous journey through his past.
