Though it's hard for me to recall the details now, I do believe I had a life before my cursed neice virtually begged me to read one of her teenfic books. Scoffing at the very idea of enjoying what I presumed would be utter drivel (full of lusty cheerleaders and stereotypical geeks), I reluctantly agreed because I am the best aunt in the world. True story. Not even a week later, I had read Twilight and New Moon and I found myself incognito in Waterstones (yes, I'm British) purchasing Eclipse. Oh, the shame. I was slowly on my way to becoming an addict. However, when I read the holy fuckery that was Breaking Dawn, I died a little. Not...horrific as such, I have read a hell of a lot worse. Just a little lacking. The curse of reading something predominantly aimed at the youngsters is that you don't get the toe curling details. Dammit. Next up, I tortured myself with Midnight Sun. Foolish, I know, as I absolutely loath not finishing a book once I've started, but I needed a fix dammit, and it was the best I could do. After finishing what's been written of that so far, I still needed more. Feeling alone in the world, I googled that shit. Things may have turned out decidedly different had I not happened across the insanely brilliant Wide Awake. Initially confused (where in the hell are the vampires?!), I went with it because - well, in all honesty I was bored shitless at my work and had nothing better to do online. But I digress. WA was still a WIP at the time, but I devoured the 40-or-so chapters available. In two days. At work. Needless to say, from that moment on, I was addicted to fanfiction. Yes, there have been some bloody awful fails, but there have been some along the way that have had me laughing, crying, snorting (try explaining that one away while supposedly working). All in all, it's been one helluva rollercoaster ride of emotions, or some shit. Thankfully for you all, I'm more of a reader than a writer, so it's unlikely you'll be subjected to my incoherent ramblings. Right now, I am still working on my terrible reviewing skills - I'm always too busy devouring stories to review as much as I believe is socially acceptable, but, God help me, I'm trying! After reading some fantastic pieces by OhMyWord recently, I have been reviewing like nobody's business, so here's hoping that's progress. Anyways, I digress. Twilight rocks, you people are geniuses and Edward Cullen is the only sparkly stalkerish obsessive compulsive bloodsucker I'd be letting into my bedroom in the middle of the night. Fuck, yes. |
