A long time ago, I once revered the "Pit of Voles" as a source of Harry Potter and anime fanfiction. How wrong and naive I was. Now I prefer to post my fanfiction on independent sites, mostly because my writing has improved, and mostly because fanfiction.net has not improved.

However, there is a greater story. A story of vigilance, of humor, of justice. In my earlier days of writing, three friends and I penned a story we were proud of and thus titled our masterpiece "Phoenix's Life" in honor of the Bon Jovi song "It's My Life." I eventually lost the time for and faith in fanfiction I once had, and left the story up without much thought. Then one day a massive amount of reviews came in, with many different opinions and gems of hilarity. I had too much on my mind to pay attention, and eventually they stopped. But then, months ago, it happened again. It was only one reviewer, but they mentioned my fanfic had been sporked on the LJ Pottersues. I was curious, having been told I inspired some icons, and followed the link.

I fell in love.

Pottersues brings fun, snark, and literary criticism into my life on a daily basis. I did in fact inspire some icons, earned a mention in the FAQ, won the award for Most Quotable line, and became a loyal lesbian minion. I'm glad in a way that I wrote the story, since it led me to a wonderful website. My greatest literary dream is someday no Mary Sue will be written and Pottersues will both sadly and joyfully disband.

I doubt that day will ever come.
