![]() Author has written 19 stories for Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of the Rings, Chrysalids, and Tales of Alderley. Dear Reader, Few of my stories are complete. There is always room for an alteration or additional chapters and most stories are in development, even if I have halted for a while. I will respond to requests. I only read and write book-verse with some reimaginings that some might call alternate universe. Movie-verse anything has no interest for me, but I have sometimes borrowed a distinctive word from a movie character's script. I sometimes challenge or reinterpret assertions made in books by characters or narrative but I don't directly alter the course of known history that would then affect canon. I discovered the fanfiction phenomenon in 2013 and have been a habitual consumer since. Thanks rthstewart, elizabeth culmer, transposable_element, meldahlie and heliopause for demonstrating such skill, love and leadership for this kind of work. In relation to Narnia, my imagination tends to explore the wider landscape, the geography and ecology of distant places and I try to fill some of the huge gaps of time that exist between one book and the next. Like meldahlie I like to explore corners of canon or consider what narrative could exist to resolving apparent inconsistencies that were set up because Lewis wrote his books out of order and because the world grew in the telling. I am curious about Jadis for instance, and why she is the way she is. "Tales of Jadis 1" and "Tales of Jadis 2" do try to get inside her head a bit, whilst "Tales of Jadis 3" is really about Tumnus before he meets Lucy. Tales of Jadis 4: Twins of the Apocalypse is about Jadis and her sister and what REALLY brought Jadis to say the Deplorable Word, but there is a big chunk of this in the middle of the posted story I have not written yet. My first try was "The Gryphon, the River and the Wildcat". This is a victim of my lack of clear plot arc. Many tracts of script are too detailed or too caught up in world building to carry the story on at a pace which satisfies... and it is far from finished. I've had to take a break from it for the time being. However, I hope you enjoy the attempt to throw a bit of light into some corners of the Narnian world. Please just take each chapter as a work in itself. My most successful story so far, Polly and Digory Return is about the first days after the Pevensie kids return the first time around and their time of adjustment including meeting Polly. Polly's sensible shoes approach to life and her connection to Narnia enable some success in helping the children in letting go, but I also take Polly and Digory back to Narnia to help stabilise the place after the Pevensie's disappearance. Canon suggests they went once only before they died, but in my story they go again and it does not set up any contradictions with The Last Battle. Keep the reviews coming please! Aravis also has a role in the kingmaking, so check her sequence out too. The early history of Helen and Frank (Dread and Wonder Before the Dawn of Time) has always intrigued me. In my story, Helen and Frank will encounter a touch of Faerie to uniquely prepare them for becoming the founding King and Queen of Narnia. This is a work in progress. I began plotting a history of the Caspian line from first invasion by Caspian the Conqueror to Caspian IX. Just a fun exercise imagining the shifting politics of the courts and strategic marriages with the Faithful party and the Protection party constantly vying for dominance. I have begun a narrative about a senior man from the protection party who sees the error of his ways and makes an unconsummated marriage to a young woman from a noble family. This with the purpose of enabling her to make a secret marriage to the land, (to a sylvan dryad), so she can produce a true Narnian child who can then become Queen. She of course is Caspian X's grandmother. But this needs lots and lots of work. If anyone is keen, please let me know. I have also begun writing a sequel to Wyndham's "The Chrysalids". This is an extremely powerful book from the mid 1950s, which many people think finished far too quickly. I am sure my sequel will be arduous if I make it an epic. Now I've posted Chapter 1 "Return to Waknuk", I suspect I might be best focused on getting chunks written with time gaps in between otherwise I will just get bogged down. But I am VERY keen to get feedback on my writing style, characterisation and narrative trajectory before I consider the next move. The Weirdstone of Brisingamen and The Moon of Gomrath by Alan Garner occupy a very special place in my heart. I have written a first chapter only so far, for "After the Brollachan", with a second chapter in early draft. A short serious study on Gandalf's reflections whilst trapped in Orthanc recieved excellent reviews and some vigorous discussion. This has been followed by four profiles of the other four Wizards as the story entitled simple "Istari". Thank you to all those who responded. Not sure why most people read chapter 2 but not chapter 1. I also have begun a story about a celebration at the gates of Buckland, 50 years after the crowning of King Elessar which I hope will provide light entertainment, but it is some way off being publishable. I post the same story range on Archive of Our Own under the same pseudonym. |
