I have my eyes on you!

You should be afraid. Very afraid. ;).

I have to admit that I’m not against LU, the idea behind it is not that bad, in theory. In practice, when a group self-appoints itself to be internet-monitoring- grammar-and-etc police aka enforce the law (TOS in this case), has to have its actions monitored or otherwise it deteriorate (you can find quite a few examples of that in real life).

So what is the purpose of LU: to find fanfictions that violate TOS and report them (or at least that's what they claim). Which is fine and dandy, since every time that you post your story you confirm your acceptance of the guidelines, and if you get caught of violating them, you either have to tweak your fiction so it applies to ff.net rules or be prepared it will be deleted.

Now, my main concern about LU is that they gang up and bully people, and how they treat people with bad grammar skills (people who are probably just trying to improve their English via their love for certain characters), people that reply on their notifications under the stress of ‘rejection’(dealing with it the only way they know – sometimes even harsh) and people who have a problem that the Flame Union has renamed itself and repainted its façade, as a second-class fanfiction.net members – does that reminds you on something - and how they are making fun of them via their forum.

In majority of case that I have seen LU members’ notifications are civil and impersonal, in the cases when they are not, you have a right to report themwhich you should, since this is much better option than to stoop to the level of a nasty notification and reply in the same tone back, and since ff.net doesn’t monitor the LU member’s activity. FF.net stuff has better things to do, and I’m sure that they are also glad to have a free labor (do you know how expensive a website monitoring service is?) – who wouldn’t be – and until those free-workers don’t violated the TOS, they could be here to stay (as much I doubt that).

If they are here to stay, let make sure that they are professional in their activities. And now I come to you, dear members of the fanficton.net, you are the ones that needs to control them and that’s why you have report button on your disposal – use it.

I’m not here to lead a crusade against LU or to start a war, but I’m here to remind you that you have a possibility that doesn’t contain flaming and nasty comments, but it’s rational and effective.

The report button.

So, whenever you get a nasty comment from LU member – use it. Whenever a LU member gets out of line – use it. That’s why that button is there.

And whenever you stumble over a story written by LU’s member violating the TOS, which they are so energetically enforcing, you should report them, since it seems that because of their solidarity they won’t report stories written by their members themselves/think that TOS doesn't apply for them/interpret TOS as it fits them. How can you enforce the law that you yourself are breaking?

EDIT: After learning some new things: that LU doesn't aim to be taken serous and that the main objectives of the forum are community, in-jokes, and fun, so all the fuss is 'much to do about nothing', and LU in my opinion doesn't have a long bright future ahead of them.

But still, I encourage that in the case of bullying and harassment you use that report button. It's your friend. And I will here and there threw my eye on them.

The stories that violate TOS - I stumbled over this one:

tw1l1t3

The story tw1l1t3 violate the guideline rule: Stories with non-historical and non-fictional characters: actors, musicians, and etc, not allowed. The writer is in the fanfiction using a name Stephenie Flyer for a character, who in the first chapter, second scene, writes a new book of the Twilight series and was given a past in which the character wrote the Twilight serial. The writer at the end of the first chapter states that since Stephenie Mayer, not Stephenie Flyer, wrote the Twilight serial, she/he isn't violating the TOS.

The general fact about Stephenie Mayer is that she is the writer of Twilight and she can be recognized by that fact alone. The use of character who is mentioned to have written Twilight, violates Personality rights/ Right of Publicity, which is the right of an individual to control the use of his or her name, image, likeness or other unequivocal aspects of one's identity.

Regarding that, the paragraphs in which the person who wrote the Twilight is mentioned, be that under name of Flyer, Sayer, Mayer or Smith, should be removed or the story deleted.

Of course, this violation has already been reported.
