I'm a big horse fan and love horse racing. My favorite race horses are Man O' War, Ruffian, Eight Bells, and Secretariat. Man O' War is considered one of the greatest Thoroughbred racehorses of all time. During his career just after World War I, he won 20 of 21 races. Ruffian is considerd even today as the worlds' greatest racing filly. She EARNED her nick name "Queen of the Fillies". In 1974 Ruffian won the Filly Triple Crown, and broke several records, encluding a few set by Secritariat. Her eleventh race was run at Belmount Park on July 6, 1975. It was a match race between her and the years Kentucky Durby winner, Foolish Pleasure. She was in the lead when her ankle shattered, yet she kept running until the jockeys forced her to a stop. She went into suregery soon after, but when she woke up, she was still wanting to run, and broke her other leg. The vets finally put her down. 11/11. She was undefeated. Eight Bells was the first filly in history of the track to win the Martha Washington Stakes. She finished second to winner Big Brown in the 134th running of the Kentucky Derby held at Churchill Downs, a race run by only thirty-nine fillies in the past. She tripped during the race breaking both of her front legs, yet she kept on running. At the end she was immediantly put down. Secretariat is a racing legend, considered one of the greatest race horses of all time. In 1973 became the first U.S. Triple Crown champion in twenty-five years, setting new race records in two of the three events in the Series—the Kentucky Derby and the Belmount Stakes still stand today. Was given nick name "Big Red" because he was a large chesnut horse.
