Author has written 2 stories for Lord of the Rings. name: Marisolage: 14 pen name: a tropical drink. If anyone knows why it isn't spelled with an "e" please tell me I'm an average kid. I play flute and basketball, go for walks and do yoga, and have a very normal life in general, except that our teachers want give us all nervous breakdowns with too much homework (a couple of my classmates have been crying every night this week; I only have time to write on Sunday nights). I write stories to unwind and keep my sanity. I've written some about LotR, most of which end up in the wastebasket somewhere between paper and word processor. I'm not much of a writer at the moment. My english teacher keeps telling us "The only way to get better at writing is by writing" so, voila! Please review and tell me what could use editing/developing/re-wording, etc. On Mary-Sues: They are their authors' fantasies on paper. Psychologically, telling someone else about your fantasy (and especially recieving feedback about it) affirms it and makes it seem more real. In small doses, Mary-Sues make one more comfortable with sentiment, making it easier to write something poignant or emotional without tripping all over yourself. Overdosing, though, inhibits your ability to distinguish a Mary-Sue, which may not be a good thing, depending on your perspective. I don't think there's anything wrong with Mary-Sues, they don't deserve all the abuse they get, but I try to temper them with something more realistic. On flames: They are silly. If you have pent up hostility or anger managment issues, don't take it out on other writers. Besides, you should have something better to do with your time than read all the way through stories you don't like, and then tell their authors they're stupid for writing them. Critiques are another matter, and worth giving any piece, whether you liked it or not. In short, I don't like flames, I hope I don't get any, and if you have time to write them, I recommend this site: |
