I used to be gems_6515 here, but I have just changed to not-another-gem. Why? you ask. Why not!

In the interest of (not quiet full) disclosure; I am in my 2nd year of a PhD in Anthropology &Sociology/ Communication, at the University of Western Australia focusing on how people understand reading, writing, authorship and creativity in relation to online fan fiction. So while I read a lot of fan fiction for fun, I am also on here for research!

After much internal (and external) debate I have decided that stating what I am doing here is probably the ethical thing to do.

I am currently looking for people to talk to about fan fiction. So, if any of you would like to talk to me about fan fiction I would be really really grateful! You can PM or email me (gemma.bothe @ research. uwa. edu. au)!

I should probably also tell you about myself. I am a twenty something postgraduate student. I live in Perth, Western Australia and I have been a member on this site for a couple of years now. I have had a brief foray into writing some fan fiction about a year ago, but I have found it harder than understanding a badly translated copy of Jurgen Habermas' 'Structural Transformation in the Public Sphere', without having a solid historical understanding of the Frankfurt school of thought while drugged up on cold and flu tablets. Therefore, I have great respect for people who write fan fiction; especially those who manage to craft 20 plus chapter stories.

I am somewhat of a TV junkie. I start watching something and end up being addicted too easily for the good of my social life, university work and actual work. I watch anything from Vampire Diaries, Bones, Supernatural, Stargate (I mean who can resist the awesomeness of Richard Dean Anderson), How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory, True Blood, Game of Thrones, Glee, Buffy, Angel, Dr Who, Merlin, Leverage, Futurama, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Greys Anatomy etc.

That sums me up for now.
