There IS romance, since I was interested in exploring that side to It. It's a redemption arc of sorts, and a revenge arc for Maturin. There's a mix of fluff and horror, which makes for an interesting contrast. There is no clown sex, or daddy kinks, so if you want that, you'll be disappointed. It's a slow burn and not for everyone. Some parts can be more rated 'T' while others 'M.' It's a Dark Tower tie-in as well. If you do proceed, see if you can spot the various references to Stephen King's other works and horror film classics.(Some are a 'blink and you'll miss it' kind.)
