![]() Hello! I'm CamelBearDuck, and I have a pretty unhealthy obsession with fanfiction. I've been reading fanfic since I was eleven—which, not coincidentally, was also when my innocence flew out the window, never to return—and since then, I've been hooked to it like crack. It's proven to be kind of problematic, but hey. It's fun. I'm an 18 year old college student living in the U.S. of A. with big aspirations and a knack for developing strong emotional attachments to books, television shows, and movies. My current obsessions range anywhere between BBC's Sherlock, The Legend of Korra, and the Avengers (Saw it five times in the theater. Crack, I tell you.), while old loves such as Harry Potter bubble their way to the surface every now and again. This is not my first fanfic account, but I've recently made the decision to sever ties with the crappy stuff my eleven year old self (bless her little soul) came up with and start anew. Granted, there's some stories I wrote that I would love to just clean up a bit, but I'd also like the chance to rediscover my writing abilities and see what I can come up with now that my knowledge has expanded. It's a bit of a personal renaissance, really. I would LOVE love love to post some stories and really get the ball rolling. But "18 year old college student" also implies "I will have no free time." So there's high chances that anything I post will be a one-shot or drabble instead of an epic, multichapter fic. I do have something in the works for Avatar: The Last Airbender that I would really like to finish, but it's an ambitious idea and will take a lot of time and commitment to finish. I may or may not post the first chapter as a teaser just to see how people respond to the idea, but given the potential for low frequency updates I might just wait until I'm further in. We'll see. Plenty of time to decide. Anyways, to elaborate on my current fandoms, I like to read Sherlock (to compensate for the lack of season three), the Avengers, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia, and whatever else tickles my fancy on a given day. I read both lemon and slash, but I really just enjoy any fic that's well written and tugs at the heartstrings. My guilty pleasure is fanfic that can make me cry. I love me a good cry. When it comes to writing, I find my style tends to be a bit dark. For me, angst is easier and more enjoyable to write than humor. Anything I post in the future will probably explore the darker, more emotional side of a given fandom as opposed to being a lighthearted fluff fest. I've previously collaborated with a friend of mine who's very good at writing witty, hysterically funny dialogue. Together we manage to write some pretty droll stuff, so look out for that possibility in the future. Until I really settle into some sort of system, I'll probably just be reading and reviewing. I don't review everything I read. Sad fact of life. I like to review those few exceptional stories, and those that really need some constructive criticism. I will never flame, and never respond to flames. But I think constructive criticism is something that everyone needs, and I enjoy both giving and receiving it. I'm open to beta work, but I'll probably be pretty selective about what I decide to beta, if the opportunity presents itself. I suppose that's about it, really! I just discovered the wonders of Tumblr, so I'll probably get around to creating a page there (same username) at some point. Feel free to check that out!! And I'm also open to PMs if you want to chat about a story or fandom or whatever else you'd like! |
