Why Do You Read?

Some would say they read for the sheer pleasure of escaping into a land not their own. Others say they read to experience life through someone else's eyes. But why do I read? I read to know a person in ways and at depths that are otherwise impossible. I want to feel the treacherous heat of the Amazon rain forest, hear the birds sing their sweet lullabies, smell the scent of exhaust in the busy streets of New York while dressed in my pajamas, curled up in the confines of my bed. I want to uncover the truth before the truth finds me. I want to feel a pregnant pause, I want to read between the lines. I want to give others what was generously given to me: a taste of the invisible world, just beyond the borders of reality.
