For me, author's notes always disrupt the flow of a story, so anything important I have to say will be here, on the profile page. The Dead Have Names is my first story (or, more accurately, my first story I wouldn't be utterly embarrassed to post online.) I love Harry Potter to the point of obsession, and ahve wanted to write stories for it for a long time, but I was held back by the feeling everything I wanted to do had already been done. This, so far as I know, is original.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How long is this going to be?

No idea. It's a character study - I'll keep going as long as I can come up with characters who have a distinctive voice and an interesting story. If you have an idea for a character/aspect of the Battle of Hogwarts you'd like to see explored, message me.

Are you really going to kill off every one of your protagonists?

Yep. This story is about the people who died in the Battle of Hogwarts. As a result, they will all die.

Doesn't that depress you?

Yep. One of the things I love about Harry Potter is J.K. Rowling's realistic portrayal of war. People die. They don't always get the heroic death they deserve. Sometimes they just get killed for no reason, by a random explosion, by friendly fire... If my character's deaths don't depress me, I won't publish a new chapter. If they depress you, I've succeeded. If you're looking for a happy story... well, the "Tragedy" label ought to be a warning. Look somewhere else.

When are you going to get to Fred?

I love Fred. I cried when he died, I cried when I read that scene to my little brother... but Fred will not be in this story. This story is for all the forgotten extras who died without a dramatic chapter ending, and JK Rowling did Fred much better than I could dream of. I might do Lupin and Tonks, but only if I feel like I'm capable of doing them justice. I'm not that good yet.

Do you need a beta reader?

This, unfortunately, is not a frequently asked question. But it should be! I am American, and while that's not usually something I regret, it means I cannot possibly do the world of Harry Potter full justice. I have seen lots of people complain about how jarring American slang and spellings are. If you are British, and you like this story, contact me. If you aren't British, contact me anyway, I can always use grammar help.
