![]() Author has written 2 stories for Hannah Montana. I currently am writing a very large sort of magnum opus for the Liley pairing from Hannah Montana which I haven't posted yet. Hopefully I can contribute something wholly original to this fandom, although its heyday may be mostly over. Fan fiction is an interesting exercise in writing characters with specific traits and making them seem believable to the people they are endeared to. This is essentially what I try to accomplish as I write. I don't take requests. I don't believe good fiction is a collaborative effort between reader and writer. I don't knock people who do, but I personally don't. I don't claim to know everything and I appreciate criticism, but I reserve the right to not give a fuck. I absolutely abhor "songfics." They make the writing very stilted and forced and I think generally they lead to bad writing habits. I don't like author's notes generally, but especially in between chapters. I will occasionally post one to address something, but it's mostly few and far between. On Liley specifically: I think the biggest themes this pairing really explores are Miley's egotism, inner conflict and girliness vs. Lilly's self doubt, envy/jealousy and her very down-to-earth tomboy upbringing. While Miley was born in Tennessee and claims to be a small town girl, more often than not she's much more self-centered, shallow and diva-esque than Lilly ever could be. And while Lilly is a California girl, she very rarely shows any particular propensity towards consumerism and material things aside from the occasional girly squeal. IMHO I don't think Miley's family WOULD EVER be really OK with her coming out. They probably wouldn't disown her, but it's unlikely that they would be proud or happy. Coming from the south myself it just seems to be wish fulfillment rather than actual character writing when I see this happen. This may seem prejudiced towards southerners, but believe me when I say even the most accepting southerners have to deal with the small communities they live in and unless they stay out of the church community at large (which I doubt Robbie Ray would do) they will be persecuted. Having Miley walk into town and make out with Lilly with no repercussions is simply a very false fantasy. Sad, but true. Also speaking of coming from the Appalachian mountains, it's funny to see non-southern idioms and phrases and terrible accent writing in Liley stories. I don't blame anyone for this because they simply don't know, but it's funny to me. On fanfics: How many times can we see the phrases, "straddled his/her hips" "tongue on bottom lip, asking for entrance?" Who does that when kissing? "lips crashed into each other" the word "reverie" SERIOUSLY and the various "waking up" scenes that tend to plague every other fic... before they are retired FOR GOOD? They are cliches and they're not even good cliches. It's just simply un-creative. |
