The world of Remnant is dominated by monsters in the woods and feudal kings ruling from palaces. Jaune Arc, the son of a lowly blacksmith, has been caught in the middle of this world. He yearns for the chance to become a knight, but his father forbids it. He only has one option left to him. Take his silver sword and carve a path through anybody who stands in his way.

Hoping to do some good in the world, while also escaping the firm grasp of his family, Jaune ventures to Beacon with his semblance and aura unlocked, and the drive to achieve his goal. However, as he ventures into his new path, he'll soon realize the rather long shadow his parents left on the world will have him questioning what exactly is 'good' and where a line needs to be drawn.

Get into Beacon? Check. Survive initiation? Check. Get a team? Check. Get a Semblance related to my weapon? Che... Wait, what? Jaune Arc expected many things from Beacon. Forging a new weapon and meeting the avatars of both said weapon and his old one wasn't one of those things. Especially not when one of the avatars was a cute quirky redhead... by the name of Ruby Rose.

Jaune Arc is the black sheep of his family. Unable to awaken his Aura and scrambling for some kind of achievement, he becomes desperate enough to perform a ritual found in an ancient book of 'magic' - and unwittingly exposes Remnant to things even the esteemed hunters of Beacon Academy can hardly imagine.
