Currently Watching: Nagi no Asukara, Running Man (korean show) My Anime Background/How I came to be an otaku: My love for anime/manga was with gradual exposure. The first anime I watched was Sailor Moon, though at the time I was just a kid and did not know what anime was or that this was a cartoon from Japan. Later with Pokemon I learned about anime because of the media coverage around the show's popularity, and then I found and LOVED Digimon. Digimon was a series I was obsessed with - memorized all the digivolutions and spent some time practicing how to pronounce Megakabuterimon, lol. Also started watching Card Captors on the WB around then. Then Escaflowne came onto the Fox Kids Saturday morning cartoons/anime line-up, and that was my first experience with what I'd consider a true anime (rather than one made for kids). Then Escaflowne got cancelled for unknown reasons half way thru the season right when Hitomi nearly dies after being interrogated by the Zongi disguised as Plactu (of all places to stop the show!). That led me to finding and buying the whole season on DVD on ebay...and that began my journey of seeking more animes on par with Escaflowne through online venues, torrents, and even IRC channels (ah, good ol' IRC...). Adult Swim also helped me find animes such as Witch Hunter Robin, Wolf's Rain, etc. My first manga was Magic Knights Rayearth - borrowed the mangas from a friend in highschool and was hooked. I loved CLAMP's artwork (I started drawing anime around then), and their story's ending left an impression on me (won't give it away, but it was a very unexpected development). Like many here in the U.S., I found Miyazaki through Spirited Away. I got to see it in the theater, and oh my goodness was I blown away! It was breathtaking to say the least, and I'm amazed by his work time and time again. (Also, though it's not Miyazaki, I highly recommend Millennium Actress! If it gets you more curious about it, the seiyuu for Rukia does the main girl's voice in the movie *wink wink*) I've become a bit of a 'snob' about animes being watched in their original japanese since about 2004. ;) I prefer the original voice actors and the more direct translation SO much more. I can't help but grimace anymore when I hear english dubs (though I can watch Cowboy Bebop still in english w/o convulsing - they did an excellent job). Found Bleach when the fansub episode 2 was out back in Oct of 2004, and been watching Bleach in its original japanese since, and am a big fan. I have lately been preferring the Bleach manga to the anime, but I still hugely admire and love the seiyuus/voice actors, especially that of Ichigo (Morita) and Rukia (Fumiko). They are tremendously devoted and talented (in my humble opinion at least :-P ). Fav Pairings: Bleach: IchiRuki, IshiHime Digimon: Taiora, Joe X Mimi, Takari Card Captor Sakura: Li X Sakura Hana Yori Dango: Makino X Domyouji Escaflowne: Van X Hitomi Sailor Moon: Serena X Darien/Usagi X Mamoru Chihayafuru: Chihaya X Taichi Favorite Movies: Lord of the Rings trilogy, Kill Bill 1 & 2, the older Muppet movies, Better Off Dead, Back to the Future trilogy, A Goofy Movie, The Fifth Element, Kal Ho Na Ho, Winter's Bone, Anne of Green Gables, Newsies, Sense & Sensibility ('95) Favorite TV Shows: Boy Meets World, Arrested Development, Sherlock (BBC), IT Crowd, Waiting For God (hilarious!), Top Gear, Detectorists, White Collar, I Love Lucy, Catherine Tate Show Favorite Video Games: Zelda OoT & MM, Bioshock Infinite, King's Quest II & VI, N64 Mario Kart, DDR, CoD, Need for Speed Favorite Music: Smashing Pumpkins, 30 Seconds to Mars, Florence & the Machines, Fleetwood Mac, Heart, X Japan, Shiny Toy Guns, 2NE1, Big Bang, A.R.
