The events leading up to Newts suicide

Fear doesn't shut you down, it wakes you up. It makes you realize what you really care for. When Newt and Minho are trapped in the Maze with a Griever cutting off their only way of escape, Newt makes a decision that could impact the entire Glade. He just needs to make it out alive. "The most sublime act is to set another before you..." AU take on how Newt got his limp.

A small figure rounded the corner, limping, his ankle and arms all bloody, his face pale. His blond curls were damp with sweat and he let his right hand lean against the wall to support him self. He was too slow. The doors were going to shut. He was so close, yet so far away from being safe. He was as good as dead. Rated T for violence and death (not Newt!).

Newt decides that there is only one way to escape his misery.

"Newt watches in shock as the doors to the Maze close, trapping the greenie and his two best friends inside. He wonders if he'll be able to hear their screams when the Grievers catch up to them. The thought is strangely comforting." Or, Newt's thoughts during the night Thomas, Minho, and Alby spent in the Maze.

Set near the beginning of The Death Cure. Newt/Thomas

"What? How?" Newt demands, nettle evident in his voice. "Medjacks come and make me go and tell you. I don't know!" Gally shouts, finally catching his breath. "Shuck it!" Minho hisses under his breath, and crosses his muscular arms. "Which direction this time?" "Well, that's the Shuck problem. A Griever got out and got him." Rated T for minor blood and a little violence.

Thomas finds himself in the Glade, a place that is supposed to help young adults overcome the need to self harm. He struggles to accept the help offered to him. Can Newt and Minho save him from himself?

Newt instantly changed from anger to guilt, faster than he could ever remember. The whole weight of the situation felt like it was on his shoulders, and really, it was, and Newt felt like the biggest piece of shit alive. "Tommy-" "Don't call me that." Thomas snapped, no quieter than a breath, and he brought his head to look at Newt, tears spilling out as he blinked. / one-shot

He could see the figure clearly now, and it was squatting, head in hands, small sobs escaping. Newt scrambled his way to a standing position, and managed to get out of the Box, and looked at the boy, still sobbing. He knelt down beside him, cautiously placing a hand on his back. / / One-Shot / nalby. / Please R&R

Newt couldn't believe it. He couldn't just have lost the two most important people of his life, and the one who was quickly becoming the third but in a whole new way. Images kept flashing behind his eyelids, images of Thomas rushing towards the ever closing gap between the Doors without looking back. Thomas – the bloody Greenie - Tommy, was gone.

Life trapped in the Glade is becoming too much for Newt to handle. He can no longer bear the utter hopelessness he feels every day, so he enters the maze for the last time. Nalby oneshot. Death Cure spoilers

"And so he buried everything and kept going on. Until one day, he couldn't take it anymore." [Nalby]

Spoilers for The Death Cure! Another rewrite of the end of chapter 55. Thomas can't take Newt's life – there has to be another way. He has to save the boy he loves. Short one shot. Newt/Thomas.
