When Thorin is injured in the Battle of the Five Armies, Bilbo surprises everyone with his healing abilities. Then as Erebor starts to rebuild he continues to surprise people with his knowledge and skills. On top of everything else that is occuring there is a dwarf king and a hobbit are be trying to court one another without the other knowing. Direct Spoilers for the end of book.

Months after silently falling in love with the Dwarven-King, Bilbo watches him stabbed on Raven Hill, and decides to avenge him by hunting down the Pale Orc. This IS ROMANCE. I promise. Edit: As of April 6, this now a Two-Shot, and you get to have Thorin's side as well.

There is an old Durin's Day tradition that requires the dwarves to gather all their courage: eating Grandma Durin's fruitcake. Neither Thorin nor any of the other dwarves have ever met anybody who didn't want to run as far as possible at the prospect of having to eat Durin berry fruitcake.

Driven mad by dragon sickness, Thorin banishes the company and locks himself inside Erebor. Days pass, and fearing for Thorin's safety, Bilbo descends into Erebor to find him. Instead, Bilbo discovers Thorin slowly becoming a dragon himself, and must do what he can to save him before Thorin succumbs to a curse that twists his body and mind.
