![]() Author has written 7 stories for Supernatural, Good Son, Mercury Rising, Stargate: Atlantis, and Fringe. I've been a writer on and off for as long as I can remember, but only in the past few years have I really started taking it seriously. It's a hobby you can't quite stop. My first real writing passion was after watching a little-known and oft-forgotten 1998 Bruce Willis film called Mercury Rising several years ago, and while I managed to produce a fair amount of content for it, for the most part, said content was embarrassingly sloppy and riddled with errors. The best story I've written in relation to Mercury Rising is Alternity, which is listed under the 'My Stories' section at the end of this page. Alternity was my first real foray into written stories of alternate universes (AU's), which happen to be something of an obsession for me. All the 'what-if's?' of history are a fascinating subject, to say the least. My fascination with alternate universes was first kindled by the FOX TV series Fringe (something I highly recommend to anyone who likes crime drama and sci-fi), of which alternate universes play a significant part. I'm a big fan of the alternate history genre as well, which seems to be more or less the same. (Forgive me if this isn't entirely accurate). I first saw The Good Son nearly six years ago now – ironically enough, not long after watching Home Alone for the first time as well. Until about three and a half years ago, it wasn't any more than a latent fascination until I got the idea of copying down the TGS novel by Todd Strasser and putting in a few subtle variations that resulted in somewhat of a different ending (I made this version of TGS an AU, set in the same world as Alternity), namely with Henry's death occurring at Otter Cliffs in Maine's Acadia National Park. Next came The Hidden Truth, my TGS/Supernatural crossover, and 1983: A Prequel, the latter of which is largely self-explanatory. Both of these stories are also set in the same high-tech AU as Alternity; they still have big potential, but unfortunately, I'm fresh out of ideas on how to continue them. (Writer's block = an author's worst enemy). The first couple months of 2014, however, changed all that. It all started with an idea that popped into my head during a walk, namely, of switching Mark and Henry's roles, with Henry as the good kid and Mark the bad one. But it wasn't simply switching their roles that made it my next big idea, but also the alternate universe aspect of the whole thing. With Henry as a 'normal' kid, possessing the full range of human emotion, he would significantly alter what we know of his family, namely Richard, his kid brother (who would most definitely still be alive), and Connie, who wouldn't be his verbal punching bag. But instead of a sociopathic Mark coming to stay with Henry's family in Maine after Janice's death, I decided to completely reverse the story altogether, with Susan dying instead of Janice, and Henry and his siblings having to go stay with Mark's family out West. In this AU, Jack and Janice had a second child after Mark (a daughter named Chloe) and ended up moving from Arizona to a mid-size (albeit fictional) town in Mendocino County, California. Several good-sized chunks of Something About Mark were directly influenced by a previously obscure 1991 draft of the film that I acquired through a script-selling website, in which Henry survives (don't ask me how). Overall, the plot of that draft is quite different from the final version of the film, with several additional characters or differently-named characters included in it. But, I also put my own touch to the story of Something About Mark, with several unique parts that are entirely original. Read it to find out more. As for my current project, it combines Fringe and TGS in a crossover story that puts the characters of TGS in an all-new situation when Connie seemingly disappears after falling through the ice. Unbeknownst to anyone, in reality, she has somehow ended up in an alternate universe, one radically different than the one she knows all too well. How will she perceive this new world? And, how will her family cope with this turn of events? Read and follow 'A New Divide' to learn more. A sequel to Something About Mark is most definitely planned, though for now, it will be on the backburner while I work on A New Divide. In case no one has noticed yet, I'm a huge Linkin Park fan. As such, you may see the occasional reference to LP in one of my stories, most notably Chapter 13 of Something About Mark, and the very title of my Fringe/TGS crossover. Current Projects: Completed: Something About Mark (The Good Son) – An AU that largely reverses the situation. Susan dies of cancer (not Janice) and Wallace takes Henry, Connie, and a very much alive Richard to stay with Jack's family, who live in the (fictional) northern California town of Castel. And instead of Henry, Mark is the sociopath with questionable morals who tortures his younger sister, Chloe. Janice is an environmental activist fighting to prevent the destruction of the local beach by entrepreneurs seeking to bring in tourists (if you've read Ian McEwan's 1991 draft of the film, then you know where this is going), Jack is a highly successful software businessman whose devotion to Janice isn't entirely unquestioned, and the local therapist is an older lady named Maggie Goldblum (Alice Davenport is one of Henry's teachers back in Rock Harbor). Uses several original/unused ideas (both ideas of my own and ones from Ian McEwan's July 1991 draft that were never used in the final novel or film). Active: The Good Son/Fringe crossover (A New Divide) – What if, when Connie fell through the ice on December 17, 1993, she had also fallen through a hole in the fabric of the universe and ended up on The Other Side? Henry would initially believe that his attempt to drown her was successful, but his confidence quickly wanes once the quarry (I'm going off the Todd Strasser novel) has been swept by divers and sonar, and no trace of Connie is found. Her seeming disappearance brings in the FBI under the pretext of a missing child case. This would probably be comprised of an early Fringe Division, and will include an origin story for Broyles. On the Other Side, Connie is found unconscious in the central pit of the still-active quarry, dressed in seemingly odd clothing, wearing ice skates, and lying in a pool of water (the latter two of which are even more unusual). She is taken to the local hospital and awakens in a state of confusion and fear, since the last thing she remembers was falling through the ice at the quarry after Henry lost his grip, and the first thing she sees is Henry, but there is something different about him. Even more confusing is when their parents show up...with Richard...and claim that she has been missing for two years. At some point, Walternate's company, Bishop Dynamic, will become involved as well. Inactive: SGA: Innocence – A Stargate Atlantis fanfic, set in a slight AU (one where Sam Carter still commands the expedition and Midway was never destroyed). Sheppard and his team are performing recon of a distant star system via a Jumper off the Daedalus when they pick up a faint energy signature that leads to an old, derelict ship and a group of five children in stasis that seem to have been forgotten. But as the team very well knows, some things are forgotten for a reason... (Will update when I can). 1983: A Prequel (The Good Son) – This should be fairly self-explanatory. Set prior to the events of the film, on Thanksgiving Day 1983, this story shows what happens when two year-old Mark and Henry first meet, and introduces Jack and Wallace's parents. So far, only one chapter, but I promise, more are planned. The Good Son: No Fair – Part 1 of a planned sequel trilogy. No Fair begins on New Years' Eve, 1999. A now eighteen year-old Mark Evans is returning home to Phoenix from Flagstaff following a potential college interview when he sees something in the road, something that should not be there... In a sudden panic, Mark loses control of his car and crashes, knocking him unconscious and stranding him the middle of the desert. With night falling, Mark has to fight for his very survival, not only against the elements, but also a part of his past that has seemingly come back from the grave... The Hidden Truth (The Good Son/Supernatural crossover) – A time-travel escapade for Sam and Dean Winchester (courtesy of Castiel). The hunter brothers are sent back to December 1993, in order to prevent a grief-stricken Mark Evans from using an obscure summoning ritual that could unleash hell upon the unsuspecting town of Rock Harbor. Two chapters have been posted, and the third is still a work in-progress. This is, essentially, the untold story of The Good Son. Alternity (Mercury Rising) – Once my pet project, Alternity's universe is the basis for many of my stories. It is based on the little-used and seemingly often-ignored Bruce Willis film Mercury Rising (which is also unquestionably my favorite movie ever). Summary: The death of nine year-old autistic Simon Lynch sets into motion a chain of events that will expose a conspiracy bigger than the government itself, and far more deadly. (The prologue and first two chapters are posted, but I'm currently stuck somewhere in Ch. 3. Again, writer's block...GRRRR!) Story Ideas: The Good Son AU No. 1 (currently titled as Final Words) – Based on a slightly alternate ending that I wrote not long ago (one where Henry's death occurs at Otter Cliff in Acadia National Park), what if Jack and Wallace were able to arrive at the cliffs sooner and prevent Susan's tragic decision? Henry would have survived, but with his state of mind now all-too apparent to everyone (even Wallace), he is unwillingly placed in the mental wing of a hospital in Falmouth (our universe's Portland, ME) and escapes four years later, to terrorize and take his revenge on his family and Mark. The Good Son AU No. 2 (currently titled as Evans Squared) – What if Mark Evans had a twin sister? Her name is Emily. And what effects would this have on the final outcome of Mark's battle with Henry? The Good Son AU No. 3 (currently titled as Shattered Mirror) – Neither Henry nor Mark are born sociopaths, Janice still dies of cancer, and Mark is sent to stay with an intact Evans family in Maine (namely being Richard is still alive), where he decides to ditch his appointments with Alice Davenport in order to play more with Henry. Mark eventually suffers a psychotic break (as a result of uncontrolled emotions and his father's seeming abandonment of him) and gives into his jealousy over Henry's close-knit family. As a result, he may do whatever it takes to become a part of that family. The Good Son AU No. 4 (currently titled as Caught In The Act) – Susan ends a certain phone call earlier than she expected, and returns to the bathroom to find Henry trying to drown Richard in the bathtub. She is just barely able to save her youngest son. Caught almost literally red-handed, Henry becomes furious at his mother for stopping him, and shoves her into the sink, knocking Susan out and giving her a concussion. As a result, she temporarily loses part of her short-term memory, specifically, remembering that Henry was trying to drown Richard. For the next several weeks, everything largely returns to 'normal', but Susan starts to get a nagging feeling whenever she is around Henry. That feeling eventually becomes outright suspicion and distrust when Richard's arm is dislocated while playing with Henry. As his mother searches her memory for clues, Henry sets into motion a new plan to 'remove' Richard, and Susan is thrown into a race against time to stop him once again. The Good Son AU No. 5 (currently titled as Accidental Survivor) – In a strange twist of fate, Richard survives his near-drowning, but no one knows that it was Henry's fault. As Richard grows up, he suffers several near-death experiences in the presence of his older brother, and eventually realizes that Henry is responsible. Unfortunately, he cannot say anything, as the likelihood that anyone will believe him shrinks with each passing day (and Henry has threatened to harm Connie or their parents if he does). Now, almost twenty years after his near drowning, Richard must finally confront his older brother, as Henry sets into motion his deadliest plan yet. The Good Son AU No. 6 (currently titled as We All Fall Down) – What if Henry had dropped Mark from the tree? As Mark lies in a coma and very near death, his spirit is met by that of Richard, who shows Mark the truth about Henry from his earliest memories. It is now shocking and painfully clear what he has to do: convince their family of Henry's guilt and finally put Richard's tortured young soul to rest. The Good Son AU No. 7 (currently titled as The Road Not Taken) – Similar to the beginning of Shattered Mirror, but with a different twist. After a few, relatively uneventful days in Rock Harbor, Richard is abducted and held for ransom. Even with the FBI on the case, Mark and Henry worry that time may be running out, and set off through the Maine wilderness to find Richard on their own, in an incredible show of bravery that will truly test the boys' limits. The Good Son AU No. 8 (currently titled as A Game of Life) – What if Janice hadn't died? When Jack has to go overseas to close a business deal in Japan, Mark gets to spend some quality time with his mother, and never has to go to Maine. Without Mark around to make him jealous, Henry leaves Connie and Susan alone for the time being and returns to being Rock Harbor's mystery vandal and animal killer. Over the next year, Mark turns thirteen, Jack and Janice take him hiking in the Grand Canyon, and he moves up in his soccer team at school, while Jack's business grows by leaps and bounds and Janice continues to advance in her career as a social worker. For Christmas 1994, they fly out to Maine to spend the holidays with Wallace and his family. As expected, Mark makes friends with Henry, but soon discovers his cousin's more violent nature and struggles to prevent him from enacting a sinister and deadly plan intended to bring the Evans family to its' knees. The Good Son AU No. 9 (currently titled as The Darkest Day) – What Susan had let Mark go instead of Henry? She would be wrought with grief over her decision, and Jack would become a broken man with the loss of his son, while Henry would breathe an inner sigh of relief at his narrow escape. But now Susan knows what he is, and that he is not the innocent boy she had once believed him to be. With even Wallace starting to see the truth about their son, Henry has no other choice but to run away, taking nothing but his bike and the clothes on his back. Ten years later, Connie is a sophomore in high school, while her parents have become estranged from Jack, who is now a depressed alcoholic. Since the day Henry disappeared, they have neither seen nor heard from him, but that is all about to change... The Good Son AU No. 10 (currently titled as Accidents Will Happen) – Mark convinces his father to let him stay with Alan Parks instead of going to Maine, and spends an exciting but largely uneventful two weeks with his best friend. One year later, a major gathering of the Evans family at Wallace's home is plunged into chaos when Dan Evans, the family patriarch, is attacked and left unconscious by an unknown assailant. To make matters worse, a huge, early-season blizzard descends on the coast of Maine, trapping the entire Evans family inside for the duration. As the days wear on, and cabin fever begins to set in, several others are attacked and beaten inside the house, raising tensions to very near the breaking point, until someone eventually turns up dead. Now faced with the possibility of a killer in their midst, the adults begin accusing each other, while the kids quickly band together to unmask the true culprit, and end up facing something that none of them have ever faced before... The Good Son AU No. 11 (currently untitled) – A getaway for Mark and his father turns out to be anything but relaxing when someone – or something – threatens their safety and then starts playing mind games in an effort to destabilize them. Mark eventually winds up trapped in an extensive underground cave system, at the mercy of an angry spirit, and finds himself working with the unlikeliest of allies to defeat it: Henry. The Good Son AU No. 12 (currently titled as False Image) – Mark reins in his temper and doesn't threaten Henry with the scissors. Instead, he simply walks out and locks himself away in a third floor bedroom until his father returns, while Susan never confronts Henry, choosing to try and 'fix' him on her own. In the next twenty years, the two sides of the family end up on very different paths, with Henry attending Harvard and making a meteoric rise in politics, while Mark ends up a high school teacher who starts a family of his own. Known but to a select few is the trail of human wreckage Henry has left in the wake of his rise to power, and his cousin is one of them. Among this wreckage is his own family, with Susan's strategy of subtly 'fixing' her son having been doomed from the beginning. Henry eventually has his mother committed to a psychiatric hospital and gains full control over his father's estate after Wallace is incapacitated by a stroke. With her family falling to pieces, Connie moves out to Arizona to make a new life for herself. (Synopsis incomplete) The Good Son AU No. 13 (currently titled as Good Son, Bad Son) – Henry is born ‘normal’, but also has an identical twin brother, Gabriel, who is the family’s malevolent and murderous sociopath. Their differences become much more pronounced over time and by the age of 12, a noticeable rift has begun to grow between them. Though still a normal, flawed human being, Henry is generally a very caring sibling, the older brother Connie and Richard deserve, while Gabriel constantly tries to turn his brothers and sister against each other and has been known to physically or verbally abuse Connie and Richard when Henry and/or their parents are absent. Henry tries, but is never able to prove that his twin brother has done anything wrong, and more often than not, instead finds the blame for Gabriel’s actions unfairly placed on his shoulders. Gabriel, on the other hand - as the so-called 'good son' - is constantly doted on by their parents, oftentimes at the expense of Henry, Connie, and Richard. This dynamic is soon disrupted by the arrival of their cousin Mark from Arizona, who has absolutely no idea of what he is walking into. And when Wallace takes the family on a Christmas vacation to their beach house in North Carolina, the events that unfold there will forever alter the future, and determine who lives... and who dies. The Good Son AU No. 14 (currently titled as Unbroken) – Mark works up the courage to tell his parents about Kieran Snyder in 1991. At their son’s insistence, Jack and Janice decide to take Kieran in (after his mother and stepfather are arrested) and eventually adopt him, with the hope of giving the boy a better life. The next year and a half sees a major improvement in Kieran, who has since bonded with Mark like a brother, making the two very nearly inseparable. Kieran even sees fit to have Jack and Janice change his last name to Evans, wanting absolutely nothing to do with his old family. When Janice dies in the last days of November 1993, the boys are devastated, but, despite Jack having to go away to Europe on business, they soon manage to find a new friend in their oldest cousin, Henry. Or so they think. Henry hopes to find a new ally and surrogate brother (a surviving Richard does nothing but annoy him) to share in his delusions of power and strength, which leads to him playing Mark and Kieran against each other, in an effort to drive them apart. Something About Mark 1.5 (currently titled as The Days Gone By) – A 'Where are they now?' sequel for Something About Mark, set four years later, in 1997. It will show the fallout from Mark's actions in 1993 and before, and what has become of the bitter young sociopath in the years since. The Good Son short story/one-shot No. 1 (currently titled as The Old and the New) – Set thirty-one years after the events of the film, a now-adult (and married) Connie looks back on the events that have shaped her life. Stargate: SG-1 AU No. 1 (currently untitled) – Divergence from S6E12 'Unnatural Selection'. What if Sam Carter had kept her word to the Replicator Fifth and allowed him to leave with them? What could have happened afterward, and how could her decision here have affected the future? Stargate: Atlantis AU No. 2 (currently untitled) – Carson Beckett's retrovirus experiments fail, and he instead focuses on a way to cure the Wraiths' need to feed on humans. The changes from this are relatively minor - initially - but the events of Season 2's 'Instinct' are radically changed from what we know, while the events of 'Conversion' never happen, and the Wraith girl Elia continues to live, eventually coming to stay in Atlantis as a willing participant in Beckett's new experiments which, slowly, but surely begin to bear fruit within a year. Unfortunately, an ambitious Wraith Hive commander has somehow gotten wind of the Expedition's new 'project' and intends to steal it to use as a weapon against his opponents, placing Atlantis in danger of another siege. Fringe AU No. 1 (currently titled as the Second Side) – Basically Season 4 if Peter had not been deleted from the timeline by the Observers. Peter and both Olivias have to come to terms with each other (especially in regards to Fauxlivia's baby), as do Walter and Walternate, and both sides eventually join forces to take on a threat from beyond both of their universes. They had long known that their worlds couldn't possibly be the only ones. Now both sides face off against a world where another Peter was cured, and he now directs an army of highly advanced shapeshifters into a war against them, as retribution for the destruction that has been wrought upon his own universe. Fringe AU No. 2 (currently titled as Right Turn, Turnaround) – AU from Season 2's "What Lies Below". Olivia, not Peter, is infected by the mystery virus, the effects of which begin to reactivate her dormant Cortexiphan abilities, with the resulting consequences completely altering the timeline. NCIS: Los Angeles AU No. 1 (currently untitled) – The NCIS LA team is forced into survival mode when the long-awaited 'Big One' - a major earthquake - strikes the city, throwing everything into chaos. 2012 AU/sequel (currently titled as simply 2013) – The people of the ARKs survived the Great Cataclysm, and now they face the challenge of keeping their cultures alive and rebuilding their societies within small 'survivor nation' enclaves along the coast of South Africa, with whom a tenuous alliance has been established. But while much of Africa remained safe from the quakes and floodwaters of the Cataclysm, even the nations just beyond the continent barely survived, some at the cost of basic human rights. One of those nations has since been ruled by a powerful military government who controls the absolute loyalty of its' hundreds of thousands of elite soldiers, and now they seek to control the vast deserts of North Africa (soon to be fertile land again in the near-future). Absolutely no one will get in their way, until a South African diplomatic team is killed in cold blood and a critical American satellite is shot down. Now, the ARK survivor nations and their allies are forced into a war that no one truly wants to fight, in the hope that peace will soon return to a chaotic world... The Good Son/Home Alone crossover (currently untitled) – (An interesting twist on the belief that everyone has a twin somewhere in the world). One day, twelve year-old Henry Evans awakens in a strange house in Chicago. Not only does he discover that he is in the body of an eight year-old who looks just like him, but the year is 1990, and he is the only one home. Three years later, eight year-old Kevin McCallister finds himself in a home in Maine, where he is accused of horrible crimes by a brown-haired boy named Mark. Kevin desperately tries to convince this boy of who he really is, and to find his way back to where he belongs. But in the process, Kevin learns of his family's fate: his parents, 'him', and Buzz are the only survivors of a fire that destroyed their home in December 1991. Kevin soon enlists the aid of Mark and his family to find and confront the boy that stole his life. The Good Son/Pet Sematary crossover (currently titled as The Mad Soul) – Following Henry's death, a grief-ridden Susan, not wanting to lose yet another child, takes her son and places him in a mysterious burial ground near the inland town of Ludlow. What follows is a tale of true evil brought to life, and the terror that descends upon an unsuspecting Rock Harbor and the Evans family... The Good Son/Bones crossover (currently titled as The Secret in the Smile) – In late 2010, the Jeffersonian team is called upon to help solve a series of grisly murders centered on a Portland, Maine psychiatric hospital, wherein lies a dark secret of Dr. Temperance Brennan’s past, a secret that she has never told anyone until now, and one that could crack the case wide open. In 1993, not long after she turned seventeen, Brennan was sent to the latest in a long string of foster homes. That home turned out to be with Wallace Evans' family in the small coastal town of Rock Harbor, Maine. There, she meets twelve year-old Henry, a charming younger boy who, unbeknownst to her, is a murderous, cold-hearted sociopath. A few months later, Henry's cousin Mark arrives from Arizona, and soon uncovers the shocking truth behind his cousin's mask of charm and innocence. Temperance quickly finds herself caught up in a battle of wills, one that could very well tear her new family apart... Bones/Fringe crossover (currently untitled) – For years now, schoolteacher Joy Keenan has been plagued by strange nightmares, nightmares that have only gotten worse since her older brother Kyle was trapped in an amber quarantine. Unable to shake the horrifying images, and convinced that she is losing her mind, Joy begins visiting a psychologist on a weekly basis, but to no avail. Even a visit from her parents, Ruth and Max, does little to change her mood for the better. But just as she is teetering on the brink of an endless downward spiral, Joy hears of an announcement from Fringe Division: their world isn't the only one. Updates: 2/21/2017 – A little over a week ago, I finally finished and posted the second part to A New Divide Chapter 20. Just in case you missed it, go check it out! Not much yet on the next installment, but I will say that the end of the main story is quite close. Counting Chapter 21, there's only three chapters left, and then the epilogue. |
