Author has written 1 story for Pride and Prejudice. Just an Austen fan. I seem to read Pride and Prejudice once a year. I own both BBC Pride and Prejudice productions and favor Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle but just barley. The 2005 production with Keira Knightley was a waste of time In my opinion. I have always wondered what their lives would have been like in the early 1800's. We are left with the couples leaving the church and then what? Let say it was 1814 when they married. England was at war with France. London was a very large city and very dirty. Cooking and heat was provided by coal and coal dust covered everything. An English pound was literally worth a pound of silver. You could exchange an English pound for a physical pound of silver. The upper middle and wealthy class went to the country in the summer time for the clean air because London was unlivable. King George III, the King of the American Colonies who lost the war went mad and was replaced by his son who was Regent. Thus the Regency Period. This was a convention to maintain a monarch with no authority until the King died. Once the King died the new Kind who's name was George was crowned and it became the Georgian Period. The Darcy's had servants to carry water, cook food, shop, hitch and drive carriages. But in large houses the management of servants could be a full time job. And servants in most houses were a large problem. |
