5/07 - Wow, I just realized that I haven't updated this since 2004. Yikes!

I am a Harry Potter fan, and although I do occasionally read in BTVS and a few others, I only write HP. I tend to write sparingly, usually in spurts of 1000 words or so. I'm working on my first lengthy fic (10,000+ words so far) but I have yet to work up the nerve to try anything multi-chaptered. Genfic is my true love, and I have a definite soft spot for Severitus+ themes and rarepairs/minor characters, but as a reader I primarily consume slash. I find it to be better written overall for some reason. Not that there isn't plenty of slashy badfic out there, but since I tend to avoid the worst of that anyway, it's all good. Actually, I enjoy badfic to a certain extent. Even the worst Mary Sue story can have some good imaginative aspects, and sometimes cliches can be fun. Overall though, I definitely prefer long, plotty, intelligent, mature stories with both emotional depth and abundant character exploration.

Not that I can write any of that, mind you.

If you are reading my stuff, please take a minute to let me know. I'm truly focused on growing as a writer, so I appreciate honest feedback. Most of my writing has been nonfiction and technical writing, so I readily admit that I have plenty of room for improvement. Until I began writing in fandom I had not written fiction since high school, which was many, many moons ago.

+Severitus was a fandomer who sponsored tons of fic challenges where Harry Potter turned out to be Severus Snape's son. The term has come to mean both fics where the two are literally father and son, via some twist of plot, or where Severus becomes Harry's mentor or adoptive father.
