Hmmm...

Where it all began, eh? I devour books. I can't get enough. Even when it's 1 or 2 in the morning and I have to be at work at 8 - I have trouble putting a good book down (I lost so much sleep when I was reading the Twilight books). I was a bookseller for quite a few years after college and even though I left the book world to do other things I will never be able to get my fill and therefore I am constantly talking books and reading, reading, reading. I like most genres but have a particular penchant for mysteries, vampires (SVM), and insanely funny stuff (Christopher Moore). I'm wicked picky so if the book isn't readable (in my opinion) I throw it aside - this is a habit left over from my bookseller days when I had to read a season of books from all the major houses in a few short weeks. If the ARC I picked up wasn't great - I tossed it back on the pile to pick up another. You can't sell what you don't love - and if it doesn't speak to you - you won't love it.

So how did I find fanfic? I watched TrueBlood Season 1 a few months ago and thought, "I heard the books were good. I wonder if they are as good as the show." I borrowed the first book from the library and found that I devoured it in one night. I read through the entire series in a few weeks and came to the wise conclusion that the books were edible and the show was just "eh". I was talking to a co-worker about Halloween for some reason (can't remember why since we were talking about work stuff) and I happened to mention that I usually chose to masquerade as a vampire for Halloween for most of my childhood. Her response was to get a priceless grin on her face as she asked me if I had ever heard of The Southern Vampire Mysteries. I nearly fell over since I had just finished reading books 1-9, was now a closet SVM-aholic, and was DYING to dish with someone that had read them, too. We had a highly animated chat with much giggling about SVM and she told me all about fanfic. She sent me links to some amazing authors (see my favorites) and I have been completely hooked since. This site has some incredibly talented writers.

I do my day job in order to support my book habbit. My husband thinks I have too many books but I always say, "You can never have too many books - there is no such thing!" One of my favorite things about finding a book that I'm passionate about is being able to share it with others - to get them hooked. I get the warm fuzzies and no small amount of pleasure when I recommend the right book to the right reader. What can I say - it's my natural high. Even though I'm all about reading I'm going to try to write a little bit. Please tell me what you think because that is the only way that I will be able to figure out how to make a go of it.
