As though anyone cares... Opinion: J.R.R. Tolkien was a master story-teller; we are only poor imitators of his art, at best. Opinion/Rant: Not only can no one come close to the genius and style of the master, whose elves are the most awesome characters ever devised (quoting the master: "...they really represent Men with greatly enhanced aesthetic and creative faculties, greater beauty and longer life, and nobility..."), but it leaves a person wondering what happened to all that "great" stuff when reading stories here on FanFiction of authors' so-called Tolkien elves. Seems like there's a lot of slumming elves with little or none nobility, who are over-sexed and unscrupulous, and resemble Tolkien's elves only in physical description and character names. (Do you really want to flame a bio? Be my guest!) Likes: Cats, horses, and dark chocolate. I also enjoy: poetry, fantasy (if tasteful and well-written), Christian fiction, and funny LOTR stories. (And I don't think stupid is synonymous with funny--at least that's what my Oxford dictionary tells me, although with the idiocy that passes for humour it does seem like there are authors on this site who are confused by the difference in definitions.) Advice:(for what it's worth) To Mary-Sues who insist that their stories have plots, mayhap they do, but it is in a graveyard! |
