Merlin was the greatest Wizard of all. His legacy, the amulet Achidnae, became a closely kept secret, and nearly destroyed by Voldemort's first reign of terror. Now the Amulet is brought out of hiding as the Heir returns to Hogwarts.

Ron and Hermione witness Harry's disappearance in a flash of silver light. 14 months later he's back, and he obviously knows more than he's letting on. Then a meeting in Dumbledore's office reveals that Voldemort is an evil spirit possessing Tom Riddle.
