Set after the events in TFA, Rey has been captured and hurled into the life of Kylo Ren. A prisoner, Rey is left with two choices; to die or join the darkside. But once he felt Rey's connection to the Force, and learned of her ability to quell the war between dark and light within him – he knew there would be no letting her go so easily. Kylo Ren thought he had quenched the light forever, but after being betrayed by a jealous Hux and falling into the none-too-friendly hands of Rey, Finn, and Chewbacca, the man who used to be Ben Solo realizes the light may still be trying to claim him. Reylo and FinnPoe.

After Starkiller Base is destroyed, Rey goes out in search of Luke and trains to become a part of the next generation of Jedi. However, Kylo Ren understands if she accomplishes her quest, then everything he has worked for is diminished. He sets out to find his previous teacher and to stop the Jedi from returning, but finds something much different from what he imagined.

A monster. That was not Kylo Ren, but Snoke. No, Kylo Ren was just the puppet Snoke used to manipulate into doing his monstrous deeds. — "Get out of my head, Ben." She glared deeply. Do not call me that vile name ever again, do you understand me? "Why? That is your name, isn't it, Ben?" Rey looked at him with curiosity burning. It seemed to her that he was trying so hard to forget.
