Austin Moon is the bad boy of Marino high. Ally Dawson has been his bullying target since freshman year. What happens when his friends-who no one knows about-force him to become friends with her? Ally works at a diner where one morning she meets Austin Moon, a young soldier about to leave on his first deployment, a year long trip to the war zone of Afghanistan. Despite the obvious flirting that goes on, she turns him down and says she's not interested. He's not exactly one to give up... what happens when she receives a letter from an unknown address with her name on it?

Ally Dawson's fear of flying becomes reality when the plane holding her and her classmates crashes on it's way to California.
