![]() Howdy! Can't give you full details about myself for fear of stalkers. I already have enough of those. They have a special title: they're called friends. However, I can give you little tidbits that will most likely come in handy, but occasionally you'll find that useless piece of info! :D *fanfare* "Makenzie Rush" is NOT my real name! *dun dun duhhhh* I am a college student, so studies are my first priority. Therefore, (if I ever get a fic up here) I don't promise regular updates so don't hassle me. EDIT: Surprise! I've graduated! However, this does not mean that I am anywhere close to having a fic up here. I'm still really busy with work and real world shit that I didn't sign up for. I will say I am an English Major with a concentration in Writing, so let me say when I give critiques, I usually know what the hell I'm talking about. Sorry if that's rather blunt, but if you can't take constructive criticism/critiques, then don't ask for reviews. Quotes play a huge part my stories. I am an avid "quote collector". Meaning, I have a notebook that I write various quotes in. That being said, music as well plays a large part. Occasionally, I'll find music that just clicks with a story. Once I start writing, I will compile a "soundtrack" to it. If I ever get some stuff up here, I'll possibly post a link to the appropriate soundtrack :) When dealing with reviews, Critique= good. Flames/Bashing= bad! I do not tolerate mindless ignorance. If you don't feel that my stories are good, tell me why you think they were bad and legitimate reasons why you believe that. I will not accept bias or prejudiced reasons as justifications. So in other words, think before you speak. I am what my stalkers/friends call a "grammar nazi". However, like them as well, I am human, so I do make mistakes. If you spot any errors in my fics, let me know. I like to pretend that I have an alter-ego (who WILL appear in various story intros/closings) so be forewarned! (See? there's that useless info!) And just for future reference; I really don't care if you're against M rated stories. There are stories on fanfic, as well as in life, that cannot be simplified to exclude adult themes. Example: Harry Potter. It wouldn't be the same if you took out the murders because they teach you the reality of death and evil. Evil doesn't play around. If you find it inappropriate, don't read it: simple as that. In my opinion, that also makes you too immature to understand the story itself. Any other various pieces of info you need to know? Probably not, but I'm gonna tell you anyway!! Ignorance is NOT bliss! That's called stupidity, dear readers! Stupidity gets you nowhere: do us all a favor and get an education. The last thing this country needs is more "ignorance". Dnt txt talk like dis. u make smrt ppl cringe. i will ignore you. While I may fling curse words around, please do not use the 'c' or 'n' word. If in any condition, those two words are said to me, I will do everything I can to make sure you lose the privilege to post on this site. There is absolutely no need for those words to even exist. Being a fan of something or someone can be a lot of fun. However, being a raving fangirl/fanboy and/or starting a fan war is not. Is it cool that you ship a certain pairing in an anime or game? Sure. Is it cool to say that I'm stupid because "Cloud is obviously in love with Aerith, so CloudxTifa shipping is a waste of time"? Hell no. I used the Claerith/Cloti shipping war from Final Fantasy VII because this is the best example of it. People get so caught up in the "relationship" between certain characters that they forget about the actual point to the story or game. You ship KatnissxGale; I ship KatnissxPeeta. Does that mean I hate you? No! I will not shove my personal beliefs down your throat, so please do not try and shove yours down mine. My mother is republican Presbyterian; my dad is a catholic democrat. They have been happily married for almost 25 years now. * Coexistence is possible!* Unless you have seen the movie/read the book/watched the show/played the game or are as familiar as with it as someone who has done all of the above, do not write a fanfic. Writing a fanfic about something you are not heavily familiar with can lead to extreme OOC, Mary Sue/Gary Stu OCs, and not-even-remotely-close-to-canon plot lines. Let me explain: I am a fan of Final Fantasy VII, but have never played the game. However, I have read enough articles, watched walkthroughs/commentaries on the games and watched Advent Children AND Advent Children Complete enough times, I can tell you how many times Cloud blinks. However, if someone writes up a fanfic about Cloud, going off of absolutely nothing but his portrayal in Kingdom Hearts (which is not canon in the FFVII universe), they are unfamiliar with how Cloud truly is. Would you go to an event such as Prom wearing a pair of torn, dirty jeans, a dirty old t-shirt, and flip flops? I didn't think so. So why would you post a story that is hasn't been proofread, has more than three plot holes, and has more grammatical errors than a second grader's attempt at writing a book report? You wouldn't go to a formal event unpolished, so why post something that is unpolished itself? I am personally not a fan of crossovers. Just saying. Keep things appropriate: if you are posting a T rated story, there should not be a full out lemon in it nor should there be a gore fest. I ship based on several things: chemistry between the characters and canon character personalities. Therefore, I do not ship yaoi/yuri for the sake of yaoi/yuri. If a character is canonically straight, unless it is a crack fic or au, I will do my best to keep that character as canonically straight as possible. This does not mean that I don't support Yaoi/Yuri ships at all; just not OOC yaoi/yuri ships. Has my vocabulary confused you? While I may be fluent in Pittsburghese (a Western Pennsylvania dialect), there are terms/shorthand abbreviations I used that only fanfic authors/readers are savvy with. If you have found yourself puzzled, allow me to enlighten you: AU: Alternative Universe. Basically, any fanfic set in an AU means the fanfic is set in a place or time in which the original story and/or characters did not. If a story in which one of the main characters is a vampire and it is NOT a Twilight/True Blood fanfic, chances are: it's an AU. OOC: Out Of Character. If, in a fanfic, L Lawliet (from the anime Death Note) is standing up straight, eating salt and vinegar flavored potato chips, sleeps on a daily basis, and is not only wearing socks and shoes, but something other than jeans and a white long sleeved shirt, he is clearly OOC. (Most new fanfic authors fall victim to a character being OOC. That's why it is important to either have a Beta and/or revise your work every chance you get.) OC: Original Character. An OC is a character that is completely original and/or created by a fanfic author. It's not uncommon to see an original character play a part in fanfiction. Sometimes, it is a good thing to have an OC in a fanfic. However, there are dangers to having original characters introduced. Mary Sue: a female original character (or poorly interpreted character) who is either completely devoid of any interesting characteristics or inhumanly beautiful, liked by every character, powerful in every way, and "perfect in every way". This is one of the dangers of having OCs. A lot of authors with potential to be a good writer fall victim to the dangers of Mary Sues. In order to avoid Mary Sue possibilities, many authors keep their OCs in secondary character positions and don't really give them a lot of attention. Gary Stu: the male equivalent of a Mary Sue. Surprisingly, a lot of male characters can be interpreted incorrectly to the point of a Gary Stu. Fluff: light moments of love between an implied or canon pairing in a fanfic. One-Shot: a fanfic that begins and ends in only one chapter. In other words, it's the fanfiction version of a short story. Fanfiction authors usually like to lump a collection of one shots all together that either share the same pairing and/or relate to each other in some way shape or form. Lime: a moment in a fanfic in which a pairing of characters engage in a make-out session. Limes are usually one shots. However, it's not uncommon to find a 'lime chapter'. Limes are generally T rated stories. (*The rating system is there for a reason. Limes are generally labeled for teens because I don't think I would want my seven year old cousin to be reading a lime*) Lemon: an M RATED moment in a fanfic in which a pairing does naughty things. A lemon is ALWAYS labeled for mature readers. (*'Mature' labels should always be treated like an R rated movie.*) Slash-pairing: a homosexual pairing in a fanfiction that usually M RATED. For example: the Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy pairing in the Harry Potter fandom is one of the more popular slash pairings. Yaoi: a japanese term (meaning Boys Love) that refers to a homosexual male pairing. 'Yaoi' (the word) is more linked to either anime or gaming fanfics. Yuri: the female equivalent of yaoi "There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you." -Maya Angelou |
