It was because, until now, everyone thought England was a scrawny man. Then it's revealed she's a woman. A slender, blonde woman who is a virgin. There aren't many female nations, and the concept of an untouched one is very appealing. Specially to nations with tensions with England, which rapidly becomes sexual tension. When the other nations find out that England is really a woman dressing as a man, they start setting her up on dates, so extreme measures are called for. To keep everyone from obsessing about her love life, England announces that she's seeing someone. Someone wonderful. Someone handsome. Someone completely made up. French is one of the top languages learnt in schools in England. This gives anon the funny head-canon that England can speak French. And fluently. She just acts like she can’t because it’s embarrassing and because it’s France’s language. One day England slips up and speaks fluent French to someone without realising it. Reactions of anyone she is around and England being mortified that she slipped up and spoke French. Bonus 1: England desperatly tries to deny it. Bonus 2: France is present when it happens (and other French speaking nations if anon wants to do others). Fem!CanadaFem!UK, NO PAIRING, hinted fem!CanadaxFrance, Fem!UKxUS England is provoked into passing herself off as an American. She drinks coffee instead of tea, watches American football, drives on the other side of the road, etc. Some things are harder to do than others. But there are some things that England quite frankly enjoys although she's reluctant to admit it.
