Author has written 2 stories for Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings. (Profile Update June 4, 2012) How is it that this happens? I think I have kicked the Fanfiction addiction, only to find myself come running back from the wagon. I'm currently a graduate student at the University of Delaware, becoming a Master of Disaster (literally). My first love in fandom was Digimon, and I still dabble in reading it if something interesting comes up. Although there are few stories out there of the caliber of my old favorites (Kale and Tk Takaishi, heck I remember when they started their stories!), I'm still heartily amused by Arpulver, and a few newbies. I'll admit that I review, and don't write. The creative writing genes definitely went to my sister. Don’t look at any of the below stories as evidence of my level of writing, they both have long back-stories behind them. Also, if you need medical advice on a situation for a story, pretty, pretty please pm me. My favorite thing to read is well treated medical drama (head injuries are serious, folks!). My freshman year I wrote an essay on Mary Sue in the Fan-fiction universe- this is where “Dreams Alive” comes in. It was written in order to gauge the response of the Fan-fiction community to a pretty darn bad Mary Sue. I don’t usually write things like that, although I will admit that it was sort of fun. If your interested in the essay, check it our on fiction press (under the same username). The presentation of this paper went well (AKA, I got an A in the class), and I recently submitted a copy to be reviewed on Henneth Annun, which got approved! One of my life goals is now complete! I also received an honorable mention from the Mithril Awards for the paper, which was awesome. Favorites Fandoms: Current: Avengers- Specifically Clint/Coulson. Yikes. Another fandom that hit hard and fast. I started reading a few of these stories before the movies came out, and am now completely and totally hooked. For once, I'm actually present at the beginning of a fandom! Woot! NCIS- This obsession puzzles me, but definitely hit me hard. Started reading the stories in August 2011 and became completely and quickly hooked, especially on anything featuring McGee. I'm not shipping anything in particular here, which is refreshing. I'll read pretty much anything. It's nice to actually be in an active fandom for once- I tend to find way too many fandoms after they are mainly dead (See The West Wing). Star Trek XI- I'm a pretty serious Kirk/Bones shipper after watching the new movie. Most of that itch is scratched by livejournal, but I still read some things in that genre here. I doubt that I'll become a full trekie- far too much history to learn. West Wing- The caliber of the West Wing stories here are incredible, and I love me some Josh/Donna. Not much is currently being written, but this show remains so incredibly relevant that I can't stay away. Older Fandoms that I still sometimes enjoy: Harry Potter- I find that I have difficulty getting too deeply into the fic of this fandom. I've certainly been a fan since reading the books 14 years ago (yikes!), but there is a bit too much drama in the fandom. Still, there are a few excellent stories that I keep up on, mainly because of the strengths of the writers. Generally I'm all for canon romance, but I do find myself intrigued by Lupin/Sirius. JRR Tolkien- The more literature I read, the more I respect everything that he's written, and the world that he created. Elrond is undoubtedly my favorite character, which is weird, I know. Terry Pratchett- How can you not love this guy. I'm a major fan of any book that features Vimes, and have difficulty resisting any new novel by him, as silly as it may be! I haven't read that much fic here, but some crossovers featuring his characters are awesome, and some of the fic based on Good Omens (possibly my favorite book ever) is amazing. Star Wars- I've sort of fallen away from these, mostly because they have strayed from the characters that I love most (or killed them off). However, with a new X-Wing book coming soon, all bets are off. Anyway, I’m an oldie, as far as ffn is concerned. Heck, I remember when there were fewer that 100 Lord of the Rings stories, and it was really exciting when a new one came out. THAT was quite a while ago… |
