BSSP staff members are: C-kun is a struggling college student who likes writing. He has a concentration issue through, and can rarely get out more than one piece a month. Bear with him. He likes both subbed and dubbed anime, depending on the title. When he's not doing homework, he spends his time reading, writing, hunting vampires a la members of the Hellsing Organization, and teaching his friends the finer points of running over zombies in large rusty vans. I suppose that I should explain my favorite body of literature a little. The Cthulhu Mythos is a set of ideas originally created by H.P. Lovecraft and since then expanded upon by countless authors. The most famous story is The Call of Cthulhu, which is the story the Mythos gets its name from. It is about both a group of incredibly powerful alien entities known as the Great Old Ones, which lie in varying degrees of sleep or confinement, depending on who you ask, until the Stars are Right, at which point they will rise up and take back Earth, and perhaps the galaxy or even the universe, from mankind and the other, more normal races that may or may not exist. Of course, portions of the Cthulhu mythos also include these other alien races, which are pretty horrifying in their own right. Recall that these stories were written in the twenties and thirties, when the idea of aliens was significantly more horrifying than it is today. In a larger spectrum, it deals with the idea that man in incredibly insignificant in the grand scheme of things, and that the laws of nature as we understand them may mean nothing in reality as a whole. These ideas are known as cosmic horror. My stories Sailor Moon L and The Big Picture deal in a large part with these concepts. For anyone who reads horror of any sort, it is an interesting fact to note that almost every major horror writer today either got his start by writing Cthulhu mythos stories, or at the very least is a great fan of H.P. Lovecraft. Yes, this includes Stephan King. There; is that enough explanation for you? |
