Hikaru, an orphan, picks up a goban discarded by an antique shop and meets Sai, the spirit of an ancient go master. Sai teaches Hikaru go, til they meet Toya Akira, who is determined to drag Hikaru into the world of go.

Hikaru has no interest in Go since he has to contend with failing grades and a violent father. Sai, a Go pro in the modern age, searches only for the Hand of God. What simple coincidences bring these two together as teacher and student? What troubles tear them apart? And how will Ogata Seiji survive, mediating between these most immature Go players?

Akira wanted a rival. In walked Shindou Hikaru, abrupt, abrasive, brilliant... and refusing to care. Not everyone's life is a game.
