What happened the night of Anna's rape? Set the night between 4.03 and 4.04. I got the idea when Anna told Mrs. Hughes "I can't let him touch me," and Bates said "I can't come near you." Those lines told me that Bates had tried to touch Anna and possibly apologize for snapping at her in the Servants hall. I'm labeling this with a trigger warning just in case!

Anna never stopped loving John Bates after he disappeared 3 years ago. Under the encouragement of friends, she found a new way of life, met someone, and was lingering toward a wedding day- when fate established itself dramatically. This is my first AU. But after season 4, I desperately wanted one! I hope you enjoy- plenty of drama, romance, plot twists and hopefully a few giggles.

When a storm wrecks the cottage Anna and Bates currently live in, they are forced back to Downton and are placed into different rooms. What ensues is a series of loving and comical events as they try to find some alone time in the workplace.

John Bates knows that he's not destined for great things, not after the life that he's had. But perhaps he can show the measure of himself in other ways.
