This is set between when Thorin headbutts Kili affectionately and when they charge out of the Lonely Mountain to join the fray. The main reason why I wrote this is because Fili had so little screen time in Battle of the Five Armies. Also, I've never really written from Fili's POV before so this was my attempt at it. There are some lines from the film. I hope you like it!

Thorin is preparing to lead an excursion to take back Erebor. After some serious consideration, he realizes that someone must stay behind to lead the people should things end badly.

With age comes responsibility and painful changes. Nobody said it was easy to juggle the roles of Big Brother, Budding Warrior, and Crown Prince to a distant throne. Indeed, as he begins to see the world differently through maturing eyes, Fíli finds himself smothering beneath the burdens while his increasing feelings of anger and frustration are left to simmer beneath the surface.

Sequel to Aftermath. Five years have passed since Fili, son of Dis, took the throne of Erebor. But in those five years, the kingship has changed him and his family isn't the only one who has noticed. Faced with strife from within the mountain, Fili must learn to ride the currents of the changes coming or break under the pressure of them. Rated M for later chapters; will be Fili/OC.
