Canon until Sherlock says "Because you chose her" about Mary in S3E3. I was terrified John was going to wake up and we'd find it had all been a dream. So I wrote that. I hate the trope but it was bugging me. My apologies. John/Mary but can be read as John/Sherlock.

The Watsons have invited Sherlock to meet his goddaughter formally for the first time. Sherlock is skeptical, not particularly fond of babies in general. After all, who likes snot-nosed brats? But, as courtesy, he must go. As the night continues, he realizes his jealousy is unwarranted. Maybe the baby isn't so bad after all.

Let's face it- both Watson's are qualified so why should Sherlock mind? Mild spoilers for HLV but set after it.

On the first day of December, the very first day they met, John Watson was put in an awkward situation. On the second day of December, they ran into each other and he bought her a cup of hot chocolate and learned her name. On the third day of December, they ran into each other again and he was certain that he was quickly and unequivocally falling for the one and only Mary Morstan.

Because Sherlock and John see things differently from each other, and Sherlock sees things differently from the world in general.

Sherlock is hurt badly during yet another chase down a dark alley. He ends up unconscious and is taken straight to the nearest hospital, but John doesn't know the real damage until Sherlock wakes up.

When Sherlock attends a funeral reception for an old mentor, John takes the opportunity to further his education in being human.
