Both Sherlock and his older brother were intelligent, anybody could tell this after spending a couple of seconds with either of them. However their were several noticeable differences between them. Young Sherlock and Mycroft.

It felt like someone had forced open his jaw and shoved something down his throat. It tasted horrid. Sherlock supposed it might be Victory.

John Watson was, and is once again, a broken man.

For once in his life, he does not know what to do. It's a cruel game, one he barely managed to keep up with anyway. And he should have known. He should have known there would be a grand finale, he should have known it would end like this.

Sherlock Holmes was obviously never meant to coexist in peace with anyone. He collided with everything, everyone. And Lestrade knew this. The boy was on a collision course and there were only so many chances to stop him before he hit a literal dead end.

John returns from another tour in Afghanistan only to find his best friend beaten and broken. John must fight his own demons while trying to help Sherlock deal with the aftermath of something that should never have happened.
