This story takes place a year following Robert Baratheon making Ned the Hand of the King. Although a few things have changed. Bran is never pushed from the tower and never saw the twins in action. Which causes certain events to never happen. I.E. Catelyn never takes Tyrion prisoner. Ned doesn't trust Littlefinger when he reaches the Capital. How would things play out?

The call of the coming Winter and the preservation of the North cause Lord Eddard Stark of Winterfell to refuse his King's request to become Hand of the King. The decision has far reaching consequences, especially for Robb Stark, who finds himself riding south on the Kingsroad with Winterfell disappearing behind him in the distance.

When word of Lyanna's abduction reached Rickard and Brandon at Riverrun he ordered his son to ride north while he rode for King's Landing to ask for her return. Now he alongside his brother have taken King's Landing at the head of "Robert's Rebellion."
