Katniss is too old to volunteer for Prim. Prim gets reaped and goes to the Games with Peeta - the boy who seems to know her older sister. Prim doesn't want to kill anyone, but she doesn't want to let her sister down, either. She can't give up, but she refuses to become a monster. (Told from Prim's POV - unique to Prim's character)

Katniss was a bit older, and died in the mine explosion with her father. Fifteen-year-old Prim does not hunt, but she gathers herbs and runs an apothecary shop with her mother. Mrs. Everdeen is emotionally unstable and slips in and out of reality, sometimes leaving Prim on her own for weeks on end. Prim does her best to deal with this, but of course, things go terribly wrong.

Primrose Everdeen and Rory Hawthorne have been best friends since they were little. They are both now 14 and have been led to believe that Katniss and Peeta died in their games the year before, but have they really? Or is this just another one of Snow's evil plans to break them? When they are both reaped into the 75th Games they will try and find the answers and protect each other.

Primrose hasn't spoken since her father's death. When the 75th Hunger Games come around and Prim is reaped, Katniss is stuck outside of the electric fence and not able to volunteer. Primrose is thrust into the Capitol, where the President views her silence as a sign of rebellion and assigns Cato to scare her and control her. Will Prim make it out? Or will Cato be her demise?
