Natsume Takashi is not Natsume Reiko.

From the day Natsume first arrived, he was something of an enigma. Or: Natsume is singlehandedly keeping the gossip mill fueled.

"At night," Takashi begins carefully, "I dream of Reiko but I don't dream of memories. We are in the forest and she talks to me…" Or, wherein, Takashi learns what happened to Reiko after she died.

"In all things, a balance," the Erlking murmurs, clasping golden hands into his own silver grasp. There is a hungry reverence in the shadows of his face. The moonlight distorts all things in the darkness. "I have waited so long for you, Natsume Takashi." Or, wherein, Natsume Takashi comes to wish that he had never woken up. (sequel to Der Erlkönig)

When Tanuma turns 18, he starts complaining about restless sleep and half-remembered dreams. A month later, he stops complaining. Natsume comes to wish that he never stopped.

To escape the rain, Natsume takes shelter at an abandoned train station only to run into Matoba on a job. Unfortunately, the storm rages harder, keeping them both imprisoned there for a while longer.

Natsume Takashi grows up as Matoba Takashi. In the dying world of the exorcists, for the spiritually strong, love is a scarce commodity easily warped by loneliness. Matoba Seiji falls in love; Matoba Takashi falls in doubt. There is nothing that Seiji will not do for his love.
