Fighting Brevon and all the calamity that entailed brought more mental scarring than Lilac could ever have imagined. She tried to write it off as weakness, tried to bury the pain under all sorts of personas and gimmicks. She would rather die than admit to that weakness. It is up to Carol to get through to the Lilac beneath the shell when her darkest persona yet emerges.

Lilac didn't survive Brevon's machinations without scars. Carol finds out and agrees to keep it a secret from Milla, becoming Lilac's only solace. Fortuitously, Lilac receives an opportunity to get the help she needs. Five years before the events of Freedom Planet, the kingdom of Shang Mu is holding yet another Election for its Mayoral Seat. However, the mysterious Crimson King, leader of an underground mob called the Kakuchu seeks to disrupt the election. To combat the Kakuchu's rise, a rival gang hires an assassin, a sixteen-year-old bird with ice powers who doesn't know her own past.

I'll admit, this is probably my weakest rewrite so far. But I'm putting it out there anyway.
