With their journey nearly complete, Ben rides ahead to make arrangements with the cavalry at the fort, leaving others to move the wagons the 15 miles from the final campsite. He's excited to see his group arrive, but soon realizes all is not well.

Little Joe Cartwright gets to go on a short excursion rounding up wild ponies for the remuda, the working horse herd, of the Ponderosa. He takes a dangerous dare, succeeds in the difficult task, but pays the price with the Ranch Foreman when he gets caught. Warning: A whuppin' is discussed.

Little Joe, a sixth grade student, finds a treasure trove of Adam's old school books, papers, and reports. Seems a shame to let all that good learning just go to waste, so the 11 year old engages in a bit of clandestine recycling. Warning: Student learns about the relationship between a teacher's paddle and the concept of plagiarism. Includes OC's the Fletcher family.

Ben relates bittersweet memories of how a Christmas tradition was formed to his grandson.

A one-shot drabble of Ponderosa home life before Marie, Little Joe's mother, passes away. Adam is in early teens, Hoss is 9, and Little Joe is 3. Hoss impulsively makes an error of judgment resulting in a crisis of conscience, as Ben and Marie sort out their parental solutions on a quiet Sunday afternoon. Warning: A child asks for a spanking, and gets it.

On Christmas Eve, Hoss guides a new friend from darkness into the light.
