Set in S3E5, this story begins after Martin and Louisa get back from the concert and Louisa tells him she doesn't want to see him again. What might have happened if Martin received some advice and decided to act upon it.

This story is a companion piece to my story, "Just a Glimpse",with the same premise, that Martin continues to work as a London surgeon. Many of the characters from that story appear here and, if you haven't read it, you may want to read it for reference. I hope you will enjoy the continuing saga of the Ellinghams as they engage in the life of their extended family.

SPOILER ALERT! This story fills in the thoughts of Martin and his old tutor Newton, who is assessing him, as played out in S9E8.

From the day of the non-wedding, this story is of Louisa's thoughts, emotions and point of view with a few twists and turns to the classic storylines. I have attempted to write about the details we did not see on screen whilst staying as true as possible to the characters. Reviews welcome!

After their wedding, Louisa and Martin are taken by Bert to a honeymoon lodge. Just as things start to get cozy between bride and groom with a good fire, an open bottle of champagne, and some kissing, it becomes clear that the smoke is not going up the chimney, but rather into the room. Thus begins their honeymoon night trek in a tale of how things might have been.

Post Series 2. Martin and Pauline are dealing with the after effects of the trauma of being held hostage in the surgery by crazy Jonathan, and Louisa has decided she needs a temporary break from Portwenn after her father was arrested. Meanwhile, a movie crew has come to the village to film a remake of "Rebecca," starring a famous actor who once lived in Portwenn as a teenager.

I think that eventually Martin will come to accept Buddy for James Henry's sake if nothing else. Maybe this is how it will happen

The original story had two parts but, when I rewrote it, I made it into one. I added more of the village and some scenes that help explain how they got back together. Hope you don't find it too repetitive.

Forgive me for re-publishing another story. I put a couple of them out too quickly while in the flush of re-imagining stories about my favorite show of all time. I didn't give enough of a reason for Chris to be so loyal to Martin. Hope you enjoy this latest effort
