An upgrade to Enterprise's warp engine coincide with Winona Kirk's birthday. Jim and his crew are back on Earth while the ship is at the Mars Utopia Planitia Shipyards. Plans for his mother's birthday party are in progress, when sabotage threatens Jim's mighty ship.

Eight years ago, Captain Kirk survived the events of Star Trek: Generations and is now serving as the captain of the USS Constitution in the 24th century. Meanwhile, Ambassador Spock has returned to Romulus in his continuing mission to reunite Romulus and Vulcan. Now they are brought back together when the Romulan government is overthrown in a coup (following Star Trek: Nemesis).

The Enterprise is called away from a research mission to act as representatives of the Federation and sign a trade agreement with the planet Reskar. The welcome quickly turns foul, leaving Kirk and Spock stranded on a hostile planet. Together, they work to stay alive while unraveling what this thing between them truly is, and what they are willing to do about it.

In "Lasting Impression," Chapel told Spock that human poets didn't write her love stories. But that's not true. In real life, I'm a published poet, yet I've only done one poem for Trek. That's going to change. This will be a running catalog. Starting with the poem I did a long time ago and moving on from there. These might be shippy or not, het or slash. Enjoy.
