This is a sequel to "Trailmarkers", though I'm aiming for this to stand on its own. Victoria is worried about Heath, who's finally home after several traumatic and violent months in a Nevada prison. She calls upon U.S. Marshal John Smith for help.

Follow-up to "Night of the Wolf." When he was bitten, Nick left home to spare the family watching him die of rabies and to make his life count, but there was a more primal motive in Nick's leaving, too, one that might have been the hardest to face up to once he got home again.

While suffering a serious fever, Jarrod stops breathing. There are complications after he recovers but it starts to look like they're not really bad ones at all.

Tag to "The Iron Box" At the end of "The Iron Box" Jarrod rode in with the judge and doctor to rescue his brothers. Heath had been tortured physically, Nick mentally. There was no more evidence of wrongdoing than the family's word. What happened between the final scene of the plot and the epilogue?

I previously posted Chapter 1 as a separate story called "What Mothers Know." I am including it here because it leads into the story of Heath's legally taking the Barkley name and becoming Victoria's adopted son.

Jarrod's new client is Nick's first love, come back to Stockton out of the blue after leaving him six years earlier. Nick is none too happy when he finds out why she left him.

At the end of "The Haunted Gun," Senator Jud Robson was killed by his aide, Salazar, to keep him from killing Jarrod. But when they return to Stockton, Salazar tells everyone that an unknown assassin killed Robson, and politics fight with the truth.

After Julia Saxon leaves Stockton, Jarrod decides it's time to tell his brothers what happened in Washington during the war. Follows "They Called Her Delilah."

A patient that Jarrod knew in passing at the Insane Asylum has died, and when he tells the family about it, Heath realizes he might have known her once too - and did not treat her very well. Together, they go to Strawberry, looking for who she was and what happened to her. Inspired by a song by Steve Goodman. Follows my story "Asylum."

It's the Barkleys' first Christmas after Tom's death. While Audra is hoping for a big miracle, small ones happen.

Nick strikes a new kind of deal for cattle with a man in Sacramento. Then they find out Jarrod represented the man's wife in their divorce three years earlier. Uh-oh.

Jarrod gets what he wants on his 35th birthday. This is to commemorate Richard Long's 91st!

When Victoria is injured in a buggy accident, Jarrod manages to get her to the nearest town. But it's a near ghost town, and the reason for its decline is impossible for Jarrod to believe, until it turns out to be true.
