I always wondered about Gene and whether he might come home someday. So, the title says all; I am bringing him back after explaining his absence during the majority of the series. Obviously his exit happens sometime between S1 and S2. I begin with flashback and work my way forward to his return. This is a new style for me, an experiment. Jarrod mourns for a client who was different, and who has been hanged.

Set just after "Under a Dark Star." Nick gets into a fight in Harry's saloon with Keno's nemesis Jack Follet, who is discovered dead in an alley 20 minutes later. This time, it looks like Nick might actually be responsible for Follet's death. The Barkleys have to figure out how to help him, with his lawyer laid up with a broken ankle.

Today - 9-17-18 - is the 156th anniversary of the Battle of Antietam. This is in memory of the 23,000 who were killed, wounded and missing in the most horrible 12 hours our country has ever seen. This is especially for Charlie King, killed at age 13, the youngest to die there. Lest we forget.

A psychic comes to Stockton to perform at the Gaiety and warns Nick of some dire mishap involving him and Heath.

A fluff piece sequel to "There's a Pony in Here Somewhere." Jarrod pulls out all the stops to make sure Heath's and Nick's romances continue.

Not surprisingly, Audra gets herself into some trouble and her brothers set out to protect her. When the new day dawns the brothers expect more trouble and as befits a good Barkley story, it finds them. Rated T for some violence and some harsh interactions. Please R and R! An argument between Jarrod and Nick gets very out of hand and results in a run of bad luck that suddenly turns - better!

"Time After Midnight" irritates me for a couple reasons. Victoria is all tough love, too tough sometimes IMO. Judge Farnham, on the other hand, had to have turned very tough after the family got Jarrod out of the courtroom. His job was to have a trial, and you know he had to have big concerns about how things were going to go the next day. And you know he'd have let Vic know.

It's Audra's birthday, and she wants a small party for only the family. Then she gets caught in a storm, and a lot of plans change.

For those who think I've been too rough on Nick lately, and those who haven't, here is a brief magical story about him.
