A family moves from their comfortable two-story Queens, New York home back to Detroit, Michigan. The problem: the apartment the family is moving to has a no-dog rule. Wanting to be with their humans, they make their escape—first the house, then the pound.

When a puppy with a white star on his chest runs away from his birth home, he meets a lost, domesticated spaniel that soon teaches him to be a wise, domesticated golden retriever and makes him promise to be a great dog. They form a big relationship.
